citabria1965 0 #1 Posted June 17, 2013 I have a 312-8 (1995) that I've had since new. I also have a JD 650. WH has been a super good tractor but looking to get an older (70's) model with hydraulic lift. Here's the question. Are all the c models, Bronco 14, etc all built on the same platform as the 312-8. The reason I ask is that I'm rather tall and looking for something a little bigger for comfort, leg room etc. Hate to travel a couple hrs just to realize that my 312 is as big as they come. Not many to look at in middle Georgia. The 5 series I realize are a little bigger but stuck on the 70's models. I also have the round fender JD 110 but it is way small. Also not much info on tractordata.com on the older sizes. Not really interested in a D model or the black tops. Really would like to have a 14-16 horse or bigger. Any info appreciated. Thanks
Wheelhorsedairyfarmer 13 #2 Posted June 17, 2013 I'm 6'5....I know the leg room issue! My dad and I are about the same height, and we ended up drilling extra holes in the springs and moved the seat farther back. My 310 has "The Grizzly Seat"....was like 80 bucks at tractor supply, but it sits in the stock holes in the springs, and slides to pretty much any position you want it to. The C's are pretty much the same as the 300's. The frame's have been the same for many a series of wheel horse tractors. I don't know what for measurements differ in leg room from series to series, but they're pretty much the same. Might have to make some modifications but some of the guys may have some other ideas for you.
citabria1965 0 #3 Posted June 17, 2013 Thanks. Not what i was hoping to hear.Just like the looks of the 70's. Anyone let me know if a C-160 or equiv may be close by for sale. Doesn't have to be perfect or even run. Have enough around to do the chores this summer. If they are mostly the same what was the major diff between say a C-140 and a Bronco 14 etc? Forest Road 594 #4 Posted June 17, 2013 I feel your pain. At 6' 8" I look like an elephant riding a tic on my 314h. The 522xi has the room you're looking for. I'm very happy with it. Difference between the Bronco and Raider vs the C series. The Cs all have attatcamatic hitches. And some Cs had the larger rear mounted fuel tanks.
Wheel Horse Kid 105 #5 Posted June 17, 2013 I agree that there is not all that much size difference between the C Models, 300/400/500 series (except for like the 520H and 520xi series), Broncos, Chargers, Raiders, etc. I had a B100 awhile back and the guy I got it from was like 6 feet 6 inches and he modified the seat springs so they would go back further and he would have more leg room. Probably like a 520H or a 520xi series tractor would be the best move for you. Those tractors will cost more though than like a Raider or Bronco etc would cost. Austin860 82 #6 Posted June 18, 2013 6'2 and I fit nice on my c100! But my D180 even dwarfs me!

I agree I'm 6'7 they all suck, well can't speak of the xi's never been on one, but 500 series and older all about the same. My knees are in the way even on my d200. But it sure beats the hell outta bein seen on a yella and green machine.
prondzy 3,889 #8 Posted June 18, 2013 If you get the opportunity take a look at a gt14 they are on a larger frame/ platform than the c series and are 14 HP Kohler, hydro, and hydraulic lift they also have an adjustable seat to move forward and backward. Nice tractors definately my dad (shynon) has two and loves them.
Tankman 3,523 #9 Posted June 18, 2013 At just six foot, I feel a little cramped. I can only imagine at six foot "plus." I've often thought of flatbar, drilled, mounted to the top of the seat mounting springs. Then, move the seat back some. Or, might a seat with the forward aft sliders mount on the seat mounting springs? Something like this? http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/ultra-high-back-steel-pan-seat-black
baerpath 517 #10 Posted June 18, 2013 The older C's seem to have more room as the steering wheel is at a different angle. I'm 6'2 I like the GT14, C195, 1054 and 953 for the room. Even the short frame's seem to have more room than the 3-400 series
Hodge71 665 #11 Posted June 18, 2013 At 6'2" i have huge issues with my 416 but honestly I'm pretty damn comfy on my Dads 1973 12 Auto. I wonder if it has to so with seat height or like Duane said steering wheel angle? I always feel like Grape Ape on the 416 but I'm right at home on the 12's factory seat. My 18 auto is like driving a Caddy, tons of leg room on it. I think you might be ok with a Bronco or a C but the GT-14 would be perfect I bet.
JamesBe1 84 #12 Posted June 18, 2013 Wow, at just under 6', I've always felt all my tractors were a little cramped. Even my D-180 (I wish it had more leg room). I can't imagine what it must be like for you taller folks. I guess everyone has a different perspective on what feels comfortable or not.
papaglide 542 #13 Posted June 18, 2013 I love my GT 14, but at 6-2 I feel pretty cramped on it. I would like to have more leg room.
SousaKerry 503 #14 Posted June 18, 2013 I am only 5'10" but my belly tends to get in the way. My c-100 puller I had to move the seat back with extra holes but my C-125 fits real good. You may want to check out the early 80's blackhoods for room
