Came across a sloppy restore of a good running Commando 6 last night with a good shape sickle bar that functions and operates as it should. Tractor has a new carb, needs a choke cable. Seat has been redone but not correctly. Tins are very straight. So what is a fair price for the package? Also, how about the tractor and sickle bar separately?

IMO not much. The sickle bar is worth more than the tractor. I had a very nice all original with working mower deck that could not bring more than $125 on ebay and locally. I would think the sickle would bring $250-$350.

The Techie is the killer part. I believe if the original Techie was replaced with a Kohler or even a Briggs, the unit could actually be woth more.

That is what I figured as well. Told the owner last night that the sickle bar was worth much more than the tractor itself. Not really interested in the tractor but the owner isn't interested in separating the two.

I agree with the above posts too. The sickle bar is what is worth the money. I have actually seen people asking $500 to even $1,000 for them now (which I know is overpriced). In fact, a guy asked me a few weeks ago if I knew where he could get one...Too bad he won't split them up for you.

Buy it. Keep the sickle, and sell the tractor cheap if you don't want it around. Your still way ahead.

A couple of sickle mowers were for sale at a show last weekend. I know a fellow that bought a rough looking one for $200. Others were prices at $250-$300 but were not freshly painted.

I missed out on it as I hesitated on pulling the trigger. Was a little gun shy because of the tractor model and the price of the whole package. I did't want to spend some of my dough before I made the trip to the big show next week.

I think you made the right choice. Sure, the sickle bar is worth some money, but I think you would have had a hard time getting rid of the Commando 6. Just my .

If I didn't just pick up a sickle bar, I would have considered it a little stronger.
