No - the early non-HC 520 had the standard straight axles.

As far as I know, all HC's had the swept forward axle.

The first swept forward front end was on the 1988 520 HC. They made a 1988 520 with the normal front end as well. They do not have the gear reduction steering but I run a 60 inch deck on my 1988 520 HC with no issues.

I think the original purpose of the swept forward axle was to allow for a 60 inch deck.  Without doing a look-up, I'd say the 60 inch deck was available on the swept forward axle tractors from the get-go.
