Dieselcowboy 210 #1 Posted June 12, 2013 This tractor will not crank off the key switch. I can run a wire from the switch the the starter and it will work. Would there be any problem with making this a permanent way to start and run this tractor? Someone has unhooked every safety switch before I bought it. I am putting them all back as I find them. dsholler 54 #2 Posted June 12, 2013 I assume you mean that it does not crank when you turn the key to start, but not quite sure what you mean by running a wire from the switch to the starter. There should be a wire from the keyswitch through the relay to the actuator tab on the solenoid. Check and see if you have voltage on that when you turn it to start. That circuit is the one that runs through most of the safety switches, so it is likely one of the safety switches is not functioning properly. (maybe that is why the PO disconnected them) I do not think you want to power the starter through the keyswitch.. the power for the starter is supposed to come from the solenoid.. I don't know this for a fact, but on my 414 the wires from the battery through the starter are very heavy gauge wire, whereas the actuator circuit is the standard gauge. I assume this is because the standard gauge is too small for that circuit, and may get pretty hot if you run the starter through it.
Dieselcowboy 210 #3 Posted June 12, 2013 I guess that's what I meant was from key switch to the solenoid . Id rather not kill the original wiring harness if I dont have to. I will track all the safetys down and start there. Relay clicks when I turn the key on just no power at solenoid.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,393 #4 Posted June 12, 2013 What is your model number and serial number? Would like to look at the correct wiring diagrams. Garry
Dieselcowboy 210 #5 Posted June 12, 2013 Ok I have a model of 41-20OE01. and serial # of 14157. Finally got home from work.

dsholler 54 #7 Posted June 13, 2013 You might start with some really simple things, like making sure the wire from the relay to the solenoid is intact, and the contacts are correct, the solenoid is grounded (some have 4 poles and a ground wire, others have 3 and are grounded through the tabs that bolt it to the frame). I assume you are certain the battery is OK.... on mine if the battery is run down I get clicks from the relay but the starter will not spin.
