I traded my Cub original for this beautiful piece of equipment. She came with the deck and push blade. Everything is solid and works awesome.post-8084-0-37246000-1370808515_thumb.jppost-8084-0-48737500-1370808527_thumb.jp

Great trade! I only have two non-horses myself. Would like to get rid of them but no takers but the Simplicity I have does have a Wheel Horse tranny in it.

This looks good, but the paint is actually really bad. It has been brush painted, saved the metal though.

The ID plate should be up under the dash housing. Interested in what the serial number is if you find it.

post-8084-0-55633800-1370999192_thumb.jp I dont know how many were made, let me know what you think. Also, is this grill original? I've seen several different styles.

The grill you have isn't an original, but it fills the hole and looks good. From time to time you will see one on ebay, they seem to be going for $75 to $100. If you want to restore it 100 percent I guess it is worth it, if not IMO there isn't anything wrong with what you have.

This may be a 1965 model 1054A. Any serial number on the engine?

The only ID on the engine is a partially torn 10 hp sticker.

If you want to see an outstanding example of what a 100 percent restored 1054 (953) looks like and what the grill is like go to "Gallery" and look at the 953 on page 3 of the tractor page, wish mine looked that good!

Mine came with the deck and push blade. I don't know if hydro lift is standard on these but this one has it. The slot hitch was froze up, but I've worked it free. I hope to pick up a bottom plow for it.

I'm still very curious if this is a 1054A, I had someone else on facebook tell me that the A's had wider front tires and heavy spindles. The front spindles have a gusset made into them and the front rims are wider and have packed bearings like a car. If any knows anything about this, please let me know.

Killer,

Thats a nice looking 1054 wish mine had of been that nice looking, Your comment about the brush paint is so true, it may be ugly, but it would've protected the metal, mine had bad rust.

I'm not all that familiar with the details on the variations of the 1054/1054A, but mine was represented to me as being a 1054A. The old gentleman that I got it from had had it from one year old getting it from the original owner, so it has a pretty good history - and was apparently still in original condition (worn out!!)

My S/N is 50203

So, my spindles were badly worn and while doing a repair on them I took some pics --- your description seems to fit mine, the bearings are indeed just like a car or trailer, but oddly the rims are solid and not split.

I have a multitude of pic from during the rebuild, if you would like to see another area, I just might have a shot of it.

1054 and 1054A both had the wider front tires, and the hydralic lift was standard on both as well as the 953. The reason for the 1054A name was the type of numbering system   :wh:  had going at the time. The 10 stands for 10 HP; the 5 stands for Electric Start; the 4 stands for the Year, 1964 (953 was 9.6 HP, electric start built in 1963). In 1965 the 1055 was introduced, it is a short frame 12" rear wheel model like the 855; to continue the 1054 and keep the numbering system would have caused confusion,   sooo,  they just added the "A"

:USA:

ps, if it was a hydro the 1055 would be a 1075, the 7 being Hydro and all hydro units were electric start.

pps, if you can't find 1054/953 spindles you could use GT-14 parts.

Keep us posted as you  go along.
