decksetter 50 #1 Posted June 9, 2013 Already bought new rings for this engine, onan p216, was tearing it down to lap the valves and such last night and found this. this is the intake port of the rear cylinder. The valve seat is intact and somehow still in place. I don't see any way this chunk of aluminum could have made it through the cylinder and out the exhaust valve in one piece, so I wonder if it came out a little piece at a time. The question is, is this block salvageable? It's there any kind of jb weld or something that is safe to fill this hole in an intake port? The exhaust valve is a little bit bent, and I don't want to waste money on a new valve and still have a junk engine. Coadster32 793 #3 Posted June 9, 2013 If it was running when you tore it down, I'd say go with it. Not sure of the history of the block or how long you had it, but it might be possible that a previous owner addressed the issue.
decksetter 50 #4 Posted June 9, 2013 Wouldn't start when I tore it down. 0 compression in rear cylinder, but valves were so tight the intake was held open a bit. My dad bought this tractor new, I believe it is a '91. Hour meter stopped at 1047 about 3 years ago. Dad had another guy adjust the valves a year it two ago but this is the first time heads have been off. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 4 Beta
MarkPalmer 81 #5 Posted June 10, 2013 It looks like the seat started beating its way down to the point the port casting broke away. Another vote for toast IMHO, I can't see any way to repair that. -Mark-
