520H w/Kohler questions

Recommended Posts

Going to look at this 520 tomorrow, it's powered by a Kohler.  Any estimates on year?  Anything in particular I should be looking for that can be problematic on these?

It's going for a decent price ($600), so more than likely I'll snag it.

If the hours are reasonable I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Is that a 2 cylinder Kohler Command? I don't think most sellers would let you check cylinder compression but that would be nice. Might want to ask if the thing charges ok and if the tires hold air well. Great price though.

I don't know?  Heck, I didn't even know a 520 came with a Kohler....?

All 520's came with Onan engines. The photo of that 520HC has an Onan on it....not a Kohler. It looks like a really clean tractor.

Thank you, that helps.  I was confused when I was talking with him earlier for sure. I explicitly asked about the Onan and he cut me off and said it has a Kohler.  So he clearly doesn't know what he has.  He couldn't confirm the hours on it, which makes me a bit nervous, not to mention I am no fan of the Onans.

We'll see how it runs/drives and may drag it home anyhow.  Will look good next to the 518

For sure it is a good price. I paid $500 (probably was too much) for a non running 520H with a 60" deck, so $600 for one that is running is definitively a fair price, but be careful with that Onan. You going to have to make sure that it was treated right and not abused. Should be an 88 or 89.

The folks who sold me my 520H said it had a Kohler too - lol. I have seen one with a kohler before but it was a swap out. I thought maybe the case here...
