engine dimensions 10,12,14,16

Recommended Posts

I was looking at the specs for my m10 kohler engine, and noticed that the engine weights are the same for the k series 10,12,14,& 16 engines. are they the same externally, or is there a difference in dimensions(shaft size, width, heigth, etc)

Someone will correct me if I am to far off, but the cylinder bore is the main difference....Well, piston size will also be different....Duh

thanks. that's what I am assuming, the difference is internal(bore/stroke). I am asking this because I might replace my magnum10hp with a 14-16hp. I am hoping it is a simple bolt in swap

Bean, I recently replaced the Magnum10 in a 310-8 with a K301 12hp. Other than total rewiring, it was a simple bolt in swap. You'll like the extra power. A 12hp Kohler will allow you to run a 48" mowing deck.

Bean,

Just a small piece of information, don't know how important it is for you...

One of my Kohler K-series owner's manuals says the 16 HP K341 is a little heavier than the others.  The 10/12/14 HP models weigh about 118 lbs., and the 16 HP weighs 122 lbs.

I haven't looked, but I would expect the exterior dimensions of these engines to be specified in the service manuals.

How's Elle doing these days?

The base and the height and location of the PTO are all the same 10 through 16 HP.  The 10 HP has a shorter stroke (2 7/8") with a 3 1/4" bore. The rest have a 3 1/4" stroke The 12 HP 3 3/8" bore. The 14 HP 3 1/2" bore. I believe the 16 HP has a 3 3/4" bore, as I don't have that information in front of me.

That is standard engines with an "S" and the large oil pan. There are two other bases that use a different block that does not have the two bolt flanges front and back that bolts to the standard oil pan.

gentleman,

thank you for all the info. I could kick myself, because I passed on a great deal on a 16hp, because I thought it was a huge production to put it in. :eusa-doh:

Ed, Elle stopped returning my calls. :confusion-helpsos:

Wow, that's a shame.  You know, about the engine.

There will be others.  Again, engines. :)
