Stigian 1,234 #1 Posted June 8, 2013 Morning all, this story starts quite a while back when I replied to a "What would be your top 5 WH's?" thread late last year.. As you will of guessed a GT-14 was on my list.. The next morning I woke up to find a message sent from Neil asking do I want to buy a GT-14?? What a top bloke eh Neil had bought this GT only for the 3 point and rotovator to put on the back of his other GT, which is fair enough, and I already have one Wh with a 3 point fitted so I wasn't bothered about not having it.. Due to one thing and another and life getting in the way for both of us the GT finally arrived Thursday afternoon.. So how do you get a rather heavy and non running GT from the back of a van into my garden?? By Wheel Horse of course At this point I need to say a very big THANK YOU to Paul (compo1970) for bring the GT all the way from cider country to sunny Kent in exchange for a huge pile of Kohler twin spares.. Thank you Paul, it was a pleasure to meet another RS member.. The GT gets the in the shack. The plan is to put a tube in the flat front tire.. Get the engine running, it has no spark at the mo so my first port of call will be checking the points followed by checking the somewhat sliced and diced wiring loom that had been modified by the owner before Neil. And then just use it.. The body has a bit of paint missing, a bit of surface rust and a few dents... I love it and don't plan to change a thing.. No restoration here, just a check over, replace a few missing nuts and bolts, and give it a wipe over with an oily rag once in a while to keep the rust at bay. A few random photo's.. The dash panel has shrunk over time, I will replace it should a good dash come up for the right price at the right time.. The shifter plate has shrunk a bit as well, I will take this off and glue it a a flat bit of ally the same size and shape before screwing it back on. The exhaust needs a bit of a tweak I'm not sure if this isolation switch has been fitted to stop anyone driving off on it (not that it would be hard to bypass) or so the battery can be easily disconnected because an electrical gremlin is in the works and is draining the battery.. Neil did very kindly throw a cutting deck into the deal, but I forgot to take any photos of it.. So there you go guy's, I now have one of my dream Wheel Horses in my collection

wheeledhorseman 579 #9 Posted June 8, 2013 Nothing wrong with having a working tractor in its 'working clothes' Ian but I can see you ending up making a three point for it - just because you can. Nice sore - enjoy! Andy
Lars 526 #10 Posted June 8, 2013 Nice Ian... it seems to be in really good shape to:) Enjoy it
neil 2,410 #11 Posted June 9, 2013 I just realised something , maybe i shoulda left the 3 point on the gt14 for a period of time for you ian so that you coulda made a copy , didnt give that a thought If you wanted to do that maybe we could sort something out , Now i know how easy they are to put on i dont think it would be too much trouble to make one . Stigian 1,234 #13 Posted June 9, 2013 Very nice Ian. BTW. That trailer looks like a Saxon? A friend is keeping one for me till I can collect it from mid Wales. Ow do Norman, yep the trailer is a Saxon, not quite standard though.. It's running cut and shut wheels and axles... And some extra strengthening underneath the front to stop it bending again.. A worth while mod What a really nice bloke that Neil is He's alright I guess Hi Ian real nice looking Gt14 you have there . Hope all goes well with the resurection of the fine beauty. Glen Pettite does some real nice replacement Gt14 dashes and lever covers , & he also does those little black knobs that screw onto the levers Paul looks nice n pretty sat on her thanx paul for getting her safely to Ian Have fun with her ian they are great tractors & hignly desireable . Thanks Neil, yep I quite like the look of her.. I had a quick look at Glen's dash and other bit's this morning, Glen you will be getting an order from me over the next few of months.. I think Paul felt quite at home sitting on the GT, I'm wonder if Paul's going to add one to his stable now? Nice tractor, you will certainly enjoy that beast! Nice story also! Good job guys. Thanks Mike, I plan to fully enjoy the GT. Certainly a great story, it's one of the many reasons I love RS, a great bunch of people always willing to help each other out if possible.. Hey, So you've finally gone public on your new love affair! Is he deck me correct one with the mule? Mine is missing that... Look forward to Tuesday It's been a love affair since I first saw the photo's last year... Just don't tell my wife "Is he deck me correct one with the mule"?? It sounds like you want to be hit around the head with a donkey I will get a photo of the deck and gubbins tomorrow. Yep, all is cool for Tuesday.. So the 'International Man of Mystery' has finally shown his new acquisition. Ooo yeah Baby!. Nice one Ian...................................... Ok you've made it clear your a 'Big Block' Man. No time for the 8hp 'Ankle Biters' then. Real good of Compo1970 to help you out ( Paul, Missed you on my Radar) and for Neil who supplied the goods International man of mystery... You crack me up Richard I've nothing against 8hp ankle biters, I just can't get my leg over.............................................................. Stigian 1,234 #14 Posted June 9, 2013 Nothing wrong with having a working tractor in its 'working clothes' Ian but I can see you ending up making a three point for it - just because you can. Nice sore - enjoy! Andy Howdo Andy, working clothes it is for the ol girl, I'm not sure a new frock would suit her Your right about the 3 point, no rush for that though but I will get one made for it at some point.. Nice Ian... it seems to be in really good shape to:) Enjoy it Thanks Lars. She is in quite good shape, very original as well.. Which is nice... Plenty of patina which really suits her.... She's probably aging better than me I just realised something , maybe i shoulda left the 3 point on the gt14 for a period of time for you ian so that you coulda made a copy , didnt give that a thought If you wanted to do that maybe we could sort something out , Now i know how easy they are to put on i dont think it would be too much trouble to make one . I may well take you up on your offer at some point Neil, the GT does really need a 3 point on the back to finish off that "small but strong" tractor look that the GT most certainly has. nice tractor I love the gt's Thanks Vincent, they are very easy tractors to fall in love with I've not had much time to sort the GT out, been a bit busy painting lot's of 6X6 panels red.. But I have found time to replace quite a few missing nuts and bolts... The amount of bolts used to just hold the foot plate, fenders and belt guard together is amazing!! I downloaded a copy of the wiring diagram and checked all the cut and shut wires.. They are all going to the correct places other than the lighting circuit which has been disconnected which isn't a problem as all the lights are broken anyway I did remove the points cover to have a quick look, I didn't expect to find new points in there!! So my guess is someone has replaced the points but not gapped them right... It should be easy to fix.. By the way, is there an easy way to set the points with having to remove the nose and gas tank to see the timing marks on the engine through the little hole in the shroud? meadowfield 2,754 #15 Posted June 9, 2013 Ian, Getting into the front in a pain! Taking off the air filter makes room, but really you need to take off the front weight and gas tank. Re: the dash and control panels, I have some very nice decals to replace them... I replaced my whole loom as the PO had butchered mine too, it's much easier to start fresh. And finally, working clothes are best :)
Stigian 1,234 #16 Posted June 11, 2013 The engine now has a nice strong spark after replacing the coil and condenser and resetting the points... I had a good look at what's involved to remove the nose and gas tank, didn't like the look of it, and removed the engine shroud to see the timing marks instead The engine runs.. But only if fuel is squirted down the spark plug hole.. So today I'm having a look at the carb and fuel pump and hope to have her running by the end of the day.. I might even let you have a drive Mark
meadowfield 2,754 #17 Posted June 11, 2013 If you are looking at the fuel pump then you will probably end up taking the front off! It's tight to get in to even see anything. That's probably a good time to add new fuel hose and a filter - you only want to do it once! Look forward to the drive tonight (No pressure)

meadowfield 2,754 #19 Posted June 11, 2013 I'm beginning to have a yen for a GT14. You know you want to! It's just finding one in a good state... There's quite a few around with the wrong axle, wrong engine, wrong tranny... I was just lucky And how good do they look with something hanging off the 3 pt
neil 2,410 #20 Posted June 11, 2013 Thats just great news Ian , You seem to be having a better day than i am . My first day back to work today after the duffing up , drove 100 yards down the road had to pull over as there was smoke comming from the dash , flipped the bonnet open Whoosh. flames everywhere. fortunatley i managed to pull over next to a little stream which i used some water to douse the flames . My van is now on its way to Cornwall to be scrapped as i dont think they will pay to install a new wiring loom. The only good bit of news was that i managed to get some seat time on my GT14 ,driving up the road with a trailer on the back to collect all my tools and stuff out of the back of the van. so it would cheer me up a bit to know you got your GT running . meadowfield 2,754 #22 Posted June 11, 2013 Hehe, hi speed action shot.... Your GT seems to have a bit more oomph than mine Thanks for the ride and thanks for tea and the catch up, hopefully see you again before Ardingly with more goodies.
wheeledhorseman 579 #23 Posted June 12, 2013 Ian, you're as bad as I am when it comes to 'distractions' - I do hope that this is just a bit of fill in work while paint is hardening off on the 'Hawkhurst Beast'. I'm beginning to have a yen for a GT14. You know you want to! It's just finding one in a good state... There's quite a few around with the wrong axle, wrong engine, wrong tranny... I was just lucky And how good do they look with something hanging off the 3 pt Second that Mark, but my personal preference still lies with D's which also look good with something 'hanging off' BTW the KDR seat I fitted is really comfy, much more so than the original factory seats. Neil, I'm coming to the conclusion that there's a mothership orbiting our planet at present and to further their understanding of human technology the aliens are conducting a program of destructive analysis of wiring looms at present. My C-120, your van, owners of other makes and models beware! Looking forward to the Ardingly Roundup, paperwork arrived yesterday. Andy
neil 2,410 #24 Posted June 12, 2013 Great news Ian , that you have it running. Perhaps i should of spent a little time on it myself . Hmmm seriously , im delighted that you have it and you managed to get it going without too much trouble. Andy, I think you are right with the visiting aliens , Its been a real pain in the butt , having the wiring loom go on van , so i am now running round ( Headless chicken comes to mind) trying to sort out some new wheels so that i can get back to work.
