perry 82 #1 Posted June 8, 2013 it seems to me the exhaust valve is not closing. exhaust coming out of carb. could this be as easy as a head gasket or you think this engine needs a complete valve job ?. I never messed with these OHV engines. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRDaf-fnMoI
Fordiesel69 270 #2 Posted June 8, 2013 To me the sound is of a stuck intake valve, or an exhaust valve that is not opening enought to let all the pressure out. Definatly start be doing a valve job, and inspecting the seats. After that im afraid the cam is toast. Any aluminum block, with pressed valve seats can come loose. Cars, diesels, small engines, anything.....so you need to inspect. It is rare on the command for them to come loose.
perry 82 #3 Posted June 8, 2013 yep thats exhaust sound you hear coming out of the carburetor. the engine wont rev up either and when i pulled the filter off you could hear it get louder. so my first guess was valves ?. does not sound like a fun job. just about every brand OHV engine that comes through here is junk. TT-(Moderator) 1,152 #4 Posted June 11, 2013 Might be a compression release issue. I'll have to do some more digging when I get a chance.
MarkPalmer 81 #5 Posted June 11, 2013 The breather tube on those CV's is connected to the intake, I'll venture to guess that is where the smoke is coming from rather than valves stuck open, but you can pull the valve cover off and check the cold valve lash clearances just for the heck of it. -Mark-
