dlhirsch 0 #1 Posted June 6, 2013 I have a Bronco 14 hydrostat model 1-0421-6 with a Kohler K321S engine that runs fine when under a load like going up hill. When I turn to go down hill the engine sounds like I turned the key off but so far has continued to run. Sometimes just idling it will do the same thing. I have replaced the fuel filter, spark plug, cleaned air filter and replaced the plug wire to no avail. Someone told me the other day it was transmission related? I would like to change the transmission filter and fluid. Can someone recommend a filter and type of fluid that I can get from a local auto parts store? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hodge71 665 #2 Posted June 6, 2013 Your Bronco is a 1971 model year. It has a Sundstrand 90-2046 hydrogear transmission with Mercon tranny fluid iin it from the factory. I would check the dipstick, if its got red fluid you're good to go, Get yourself some dexron mercon and a 1410 Napa filter. If its clear then it was changed over to 10W-30 oil. You'll still need the Napa 1410 filter though...
dlhirsch 0 #3 Posted June 13, 2013 Thanks for the information. The NAPA store was closed but another parts house cross referenced the NAPA 1410 to a WIX 51410. I assume this will work. Thanks again.
Hodge71 665 #4 Posted June 13, 2013 Wix is a good filter. As long as you, dont put a Fram or any other oil filter on it youre good. It must be a filter intended for hydraulic use only and both the 1410 and the Wix 51410 are.
