Finally - Got a Big Block ! !

So after years of searching, finding, not affording - I landed a C160.  I found it on a local auction site and put in a pretty decent high bid because I really wanted one.  As the auction wound down I had a couple other bidders jump in so I raised my bid even higher.  I think I scared them off and the final price didn't even come close to my first bid.  So I call the contact and he tells me that it's one nice tractor and he wished he could have bid on it.  I get there to pick it up and it's sitting back in the barn just staring at me.  I knew it was rusty from the pictures but wasn't exactly sure about the mechanical condition other than the description that said "runs and drives".  I walk over, shake the mans hand and start talking with him about the tractor.  He says, "looks like it's built really good but it's got these weird pulleys over here" as he points at the PTO pulleys.  I mention what they are for and he says I must really know my stuff .  I asked if I need to grab my jump box and he tells me that it seemed to start just fine.  So I hop on, flip the choke and turn the key.  It fires right up, turn down the choke open up the throttle and listen to that sweet sound.  Might be my mind but I swear it sounds deeper and more powerful than the 12HP Kohlers.  Push the motion control lever forward and off I went, not into the sunset, but up the ramps into the back of my truck. 

 

Got her home, but not sure what I want to do with it now.  It's a very nice restorable piece, but I was planning on removing the engine, painting it up and putting it into my black and silver C125.  I figure the extra power would be nice for the tilling and everything else I put that tractor through.  What are your guys' thoughts?  Of course I'll do with it what I want but just want to hear some ideas and opinions.

Well if you do wind up putting it into the C-125 you will have to do the shaker plate removal conversion as the C-160 has a different foot print cause its a solid mount engine.

 Hate to see a good C-160 cannibalised but if you must, Drive that 160 around good to test the hydro first. I'm sure if you don't need it, someone will come along looking for a good piston piston hydro.

Congrats but I agree with Squonk I hate to see a good tractor destroyed. I have always wanted a 16 auto.We  just may have to have a funeral for yours.....

The C160 is on my list.  I'd keep that tractor.   I might have to drive 400+ miles to have a chance to even see a C160.

Here's a picture, blurry but you'll get the idea.  I'm still tossing around what to do.  I may just have to keep it together if they are that cool.  Maybe just have to find a 16hp laying around somewhere.

What choice do you have the new owner looks like he likes it as is. 

I have a couple K341's if your going to the show or can get trans from there back to you. Or a complete C 165 lol

i would keep it all together you could give it a quick redo and put the tiller on it to give the c-125 a rest for a while

I had a C-160, key word HAD, wish it was still mine.  What a beast, the only thing you ever ran out of was traction, and that was with loaded bar treads and chains.  I would keep it whole, maybe with a new paint job.

Love those 16 horse big blocks! They sure do sound good! Looks like a good resto project there if you decide to go that route.

Had a c175 and have a c160. Still have the C160 . It is twice the tractor as that cheap made 175. IMO. The c160 has a FEL on it now also.

So, I've decided to nothing at this point.  I put the tractor away for now.  If it were an 8 speed, I'd definitly set it up for tilling.
