jdecker94 2 #1 Posted May 31, 2013 so this sunday i might be getting a wheel horse 518. its only got 200 hours on it, it looks really nice, not sure how good it runs or anything. its coming with a snowblower, plow and mower deck. ive heard the rear engines are finicky on these, is there anything else i should look out for? everything besides the mower deck, which has some paint peeling looks to be in good shape, and i just hope that its worth what im trading for it, a power king that is valued at around 1200 bucks. BTW also has plastic wheel weights and chains.
varosd 1,185 #2 Posted May 31, 2013 200 hours is a super low mileage machine!! the Eaton -7's are sometimes an issue- run it and if it holds up: fine...if you are worried, keep an eye out for a Eaton-1000 rear end for a switch out in the future. looks like a good package with that tall chute single stage any pictures of the Powerking beast you are trading? other folks(PK fans) will ring in their thoughts. If you are happy, be happy oh yeah....
jdecker94 2 #3 Posted June 1, 2013 yeah i think i'll use the wheel horse more. the powerking was really nice for plowing snow and pulling stumps since the steering brakes make it like a posi rear, but i didnt like being so high up. plus i love the stance the 500 series wheel horse have. also are the tall chute blowers good units? varosd 1,185 #4 Posted June 1, 2013 yes, the tall chutes on the single stage seem to be the best and those later years also had a replaceable scraper edge. on the Onan's the major things is to keep the crud/clippings etc off the fins of the back cylinder. this can help prevent the loss of the valve seat. I took my belt guard off, used a coat hanger piece to clean the fins (and also off the hydro!).gotta keep it COOL! I even added a "cooling" vent to the beltguard (thanks to Jay in NC who fabs up them!) Check and change engine oil a lot! the Onan carbs are prone to getting dirty and running rough. run good, clean, fresh gas! Seems like a bit of care but there is that sweet roar of the Onan at full speed that is unique! Are you out of Hawley, PA?
Ken B 3,189 #5 Posted June 1, 2013 Why are you looking to trade? How about some pics of the Power King.? Power Kings are super strong machines built to last a few life times.
StWeiler 6 #6 Posted June 1, 2013 I agree with Ken. Although WH is hands down a versatile and superb machine, the PK's just have that "cool" factor. I've always wanted one, just can't find one around these parts. In either case, you'll be impressed with the WH as well.
papaglide 542 #7 Posted June 1, 2013 I just traded a PK( 2418) for a GT 14. The PK was too big for me and I too didn't like being that high up.
jdecker94 2 #8 Posted June 1, 2013 i cant seem to get the PK pics on the forum, the pictures sizes are too large, heres a link to the craigslist ad. http://scranton.craigslist.org/grd/3787203802.html im just trading because i dont really have the room to use the PK as much as id like, were really confined to 1 acre and half of its wooded, the other half is the house lawn and gardens. plus my friend already is asking me about selling the wheelhorse, but he'll have to wait a little while for that. jdecker94 2 #9 Posted June 3, 2013 well the guy never showed up to my house, but thats ok because i went and bought a little case 108xc for 150 bucks, and hanging on the back of it are 2 wheel horse wheel weights!!!!!! i couldnt freaking believe it, and the whole time i was paying 150 bucks for everything i had to keep a crap eating grin off my face!
