GT 14 Problems

Recommended Posts

I am considering getting a WH GT 14.  Is there any known recurring problems with that tractor? I presently have a C120.

Most seem pleased with the GT's. Go for it, you (as well as us all) need good Horses.

Good luck!

Just like all the Wheel Horse's I own I had to take care of the previous owners neglect and haven't had a problem with it since.  I was able to get all the parts I needed. It is becoming one of my favorites and is a pleasure to drive.

I have a 1969 and like bitten stated, once you fix the po's problems(if any) they are a nice, big, heavy duty tractor. I like mine a lot.

Check to see if the brake works. If it feels like it goes into neutral and will roll when the brake is pressed all the way down it apparently is a harder fix than I thought. Mine is a free wheeling death machine if I try and stop on a hill. If the price is right I still would get it though. I like mine and it's so easy to use that I caught my wife using it. Not sure what price you are looking at but there is a complete restored one by me for $800 and I got my two Gts as a package for $575. I think it depends on the area though.

I had a GT 14  with a snow plow about 5 years ago. If I had known then what I know now, I'd still have it!

Like "sned" said in the previos post, if the brakes which are actualy a function of the Hydro Gear transmission don't work right and you are on a hill it is a thril. It may need a set of acceleratoin valve springs or if the valves themselves are hosed as mine were you may have to get a replacement transmission. The good news is you can swap out the Hydro Gear transmission from other :wh:  models by changing out the output gear ( I posted a tutorial on doing this a few weeks ago ). Once I took care of that problem and got a few bugs worked out it was a pleasure to drive and it is a real worker!

Thanks for all your responses. The guy on craigslist is not getting back to me so it is time to look some where else. He was selling the GT14 for 600$ in Eastern Ct. I would really like to trade my C120 for the GT14. In the ideal world.

Tom, one thing to keep in mind about the GT-14 is that the implements are "tractor specific".

The tiller, mower deck etc. are harder to find. It is a "large frame" tractor and attachments

for it must fit the frame. Certain D series implements will fit too.

Obviously, the 3pt hitch is desirable as you can use most Cat 0 implements with it.

I've had mine about 7 years and love the power, flexibility and weight of it.

Good luck with your quest!

The D series dozer blade and the sickle bar mower fit. There are probably other attachments that will fit.
