Parrothead Al 17 #1 Posted May 25, 2013 I possibly have bitten more off then I can chew, However I have saved another Wheel Horse tractor from certain death and hope to have it up and going in the near future. I will keep it posted as it comes along.

Parrothead Al 17 #3 Posted May 25, 2013 Looks like a 520h good save what the story behind it? I found it under 10 tons (+/- of scrap at the local scrap yard a couple weeks ago, The hood I had to straiten last night just to make it kinda fit. Not much of a story to it, Just couldn't stand to see it become a Toyota.

Hodge71 665 #6 Posted May 26, 2013 Or worse yet a John Deere!!! Good save. It'd never become a John Deere...They're all plastic except for the engine and frame....and I'm sure theyd use plastic in those places too if they could get away with it

I haven't went any further then that at this point.
stevasaurus 23,287 #9 Posted May 26, 2013 I see some swap meets in your future...nice save. This would have probably ended up as a grill.

Parrothead Al 17 #11 Posted May 27, 2013 I think if all works out, I may try to start this tomorrow. The wiring is less than perfect but I believe I will do a little quick wiring just to see if it will run. I did pull the plugs this evening and to my surprise they have never been fired. I can tell by the paint job and neglect it was a play toy at the end of its days, I've counted at least 5 wire nuts and a couple butt connectors so maybe it is just a little wiring problem that someone didn't understand and gave up on. I hope so anyway. I know it looks bad from the pictures but the frame is strait and if you get rid of all the sheet metal it starts to look pretty good. Wheel-N-It 2,976 #12 Posted May 27, 2013 Al if you get that running and moving under its own power all I got to say is
Parrothead Al 17 #13 Posted May 27, 2013 The Wheel Horse 520H is alive!, No knocking, No smoke, Sounds real smooth. Needs fuel pump and I'd say carburetor kit. it looks like a good deal.
546cowboy 302 #14 Posted May 27, 2013 (edited) I'll tell you I found several good tractors in the local scrap yard but no Wheel Horses. You have to keep a close watch there though as others have found out about it and usually the good stuff is already sold with a sticker on it when I do happen to go by. If that had tons of scrap on it my eyes must be going. The hood looks pretty straight and that's what usually gets crushed when it's on the pile. Really glad to hear it runs and the frame is straight since everything else is easy to get. Have you figured out what year is is yet? Does it have the gear reduction steering on it? I see it has the swept forward axle. That's one great find! Edited May 27, 2013 by 546cowboy

I see it has the swept forward axle. That's one great find! Well, Thanks for the complement on the hood, The hood when I got it had been actually run over on steering wheel end and flat, starting from about the air intake it was bent up so it was bent in two different direction. I had to straiten it up enough to set it on the tractor. Apparently the hood came open and was folded down in front of the tractor when it was ran over, This resulted in the hood hinges to be one broken the other stretched and the severe damage bending it in the two directions, Now when I found it all I could see was the smashed hood and the brake disk as it was laying under the pile on it's side. I know the operator of the grapple so I asked him to let me put a chain on it and he pull it out so I could see it, He did but the chain come unhooked and it fell about 10 foot above the ground. ( the other scrap cushioned it's fall ) I almost said forget it, but took it any way. I'm glad I did. I do not plan to purchase new metal as I've become pretty good at straitening stuff out. Sorry I got to bragging on my metal work I forgot to answer your question, I don't know if this is what you are talking about on the steering, but the shaft from the steering wheel has a gear and it then turns another gear that is kind of shaped like a turkey tail. I have pictures if you would like to see. And I went ahead and took a pic of the rear fender since I straitened them out. I don't have any model or ser. numbers as the PO really liked to paint. However no rust.
