bean 85 #1 Posted May 21, 2013 I have been playing catch-up on our lot with the continous rain. the first time the grass was over the front tires. I mowed with the belt in the usual position on the pto. I had to mow in 1hi and it did a decent job. today, the grass was a little shorter. I started in 1hi, but it was looking like rain, so I wanted to jump to 2hi. the grass was getting clumped under the deck (42rd). I decided to try the small pulley, and the results were terrific. I could mow in 2hi, but even more surprising, the cut quality was much better(relatively speaking, considering the length of the grass). I have read where it will eat the belt using the small pulley/mower deck setup. anyone else use this setup?
dsholler 54 #2 Posted May 22, 2013 Funny, when I first got my WH, the mower deck was on and the belt was around the small pulley. Not knowing any better I mowed like that for a while, and was surprised that the cut did not look that nice. Once I actually read the manual (duh) and moved the belt to the larger pulley, the cut was vastly improved, and I could mow faster as well. I doubt it would eat the belt on the small pulley, after all, the snowblower and other attachments are supposed to run off of that pulley. I would think the only effect would be that it would not spin the blades as fast.
bean 85 #3 Posted May 22, 2013 I took a good look at the angle of the belt, when I just unloaded the tractor, and it is pretty steep. it almost rubs the outside of the pulley. I think it worked better on the very tall grass because it was turning slower. probably not churning the grass inside the deck as much.
