Gas line route on a 414

Recommended Posts

I had my tractor serviced at a reputable shop a while ago, and one of the things I asked them to do is change the fuel line (they had the carb off anyway, I figured.... ) However, today when I was out driving, I smelled gas... stopped the engine, and it looked like the gas line had gotten pinched in the fan gear and cut.

Am I correct in that the gas line should run on the outside of the guard, where the lift lever assembly and the rod for the clutch pedal are? Or is there a clip on the inside that the line was supposed to be in? Does anyone have a picture of how it is supposed to be? Obviously I will fix it (well, get them to fix it) but this time I want to make sure it is done right...

The fuel line is supposed to run inside the frame along where the shifter is and come out beneath the hood tower I believe. PITA to put a new line in there.

I just put a new line on the 414 I'm selling. I just pulled the new one through by hooking it to the old line, real easy,  There are a couple loops that it runs through their probobly still there just not being used.

Well, I figured out what was wrong. There is a large hole in the inner sheet metal guard that separates the attachment lift mechanism and the clutch rod from the rest of the stuff under the dash. It seems clear that the gas line needs to run through there, otherwise it flops around and can get caught in the fan gear. There is a cutout on the front of the outer guard, so while I am not certain, it seems this is as intended. I have now done that, and there is no danger of it getting caught anymore.

the guys at the shop obviously took all the sheet metal apart to change it... I would have used the old to pull the new through had I done it myself, just to save the hassle. I guess this is one of those "if ya want it done right" moments.
