Fordiesel69 271 #1 Posted May 20, 2013 The factoy muffler is rotted out, so I was thinking of threading the nipple on the engine block, putting a 45 elbow on it, then using some kind of extension nipple. Does anyone know the correct length nipple and maybe a pic?
Fordiesel69 271 #2 Posted May 20, 2013 This is the style I have at home that I want to use. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Kohler-Muffler-for-Lawn-Garden-Tractors-/360240935193?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53e0087119
squonk 43,891 #3 Posted May 20, 2013 (edited) I had a 414-8 with the rotted round muffler. What I did was get a short 1 1/4" black iron nipple. I hogged out the inside of it a bit so it would slide on the pipe on the engine. I cut slots in one end so it would crush some then clamped it. I threaded a 1 1/4" to 1" reducer on then a short 1" nipple then a 1' pepper pot muffler. Didn't look the greatest but it cost 10 bucks and quieted the engine down. Fordiesel69 271 #4 Posted May 21, 2013 Do you have a pic of this setup? This is what I am interested in doing to mine.
squonk 43,891 #5 Posted May 21, 2013 The pic I posted is the only one I had took. Pretty straight forward though.Just figure out how far you want it to stick out. Didn't take much to enlarge the inside of the 1 1/4" nipple. I used a die grinder and a carbide burr.
Trouty56 567 #6 Posted May 21, 2013 (edited) I had a 12hp with a bolt on muffler...when I took the muffler off and scraped the carbon off the inside of the exhaust port it was already threaded...... Maybe this you already know from rereading the first post.... Edited May 21, 2013 by Trouty56
Fordiesel69 271 #7 Posted May 21, 2013 I was planning on threading the exterior of the engine nipple.
