856 not mowing correctly

Recommended Posts

I cannot get it to mow right.  I will mow going backwards though.  Since I don't care to ride 4 hours backwards, I am trying to reach out for help :)

I have check everything that people have told me thus far:

- make sure it is in time.  From the picture you can see it is in time

- sharpen the blades, I sharpened them

- make sure that the blades are not upside down, I check and made sure they are correct.

I do now know why in the world why it will not mow correctly.  Any help is greatly appreciated by my neighbors :) ha.

Mowing backwards (hard to see I know but hopefully you can tell that it mows normally)

Your deck is probably a gear driven deck. The blades on these decks turn opposite directions. The left blade turns counter clockwise, as you are sitting on the seat. The right blade will turn clockwise. Therefore you have a left and a right side blade. Are you sure that they are on their correct sides. I just noticed the picture and they appear to be on the wrong sides. If you get them on correctly and it still will not cut then you probably need to look for a slipping belt. Hope this helps. Luck to ya. Larry

I was thinking sort of the same thing. Something didn't look right to me in the picture. I thought the deck was running backwards but how? I had sort of the same thing happen to me last year. I somehow got the belt twisted on my c-160 with a 42"RD and the blades were spinning backwards making a weird looking pattern in the grass. I bet your right!:bow-blue:

Blades are definitley on the wrong sides. I did the same thing last year on my 401. Cut practically the whole yard and couldnt figure it out. Took the deck back off and it became very obvious what I did....

You guys were right. After I switched them it was obvious since now I noticed that after switching them the ejector part was aiming up.

Thanks for the answers guys. I really appreciate it.

The bad news was that after about 30 mins something major went wrong with seemingly the piston. with took the spark plug out and the piston isn't moving so looks like the rod is broke? But there was still air coming out. I'll have to call up my mechanic buddy to help me fix it.

I was stoked though. I bought all this stuff for $450 and pushed dirt, pulled my kids around, and other stuff but when I finally was mowing it broke.
