JFleetwood1977 0 #1 Posted May 19, 2013 I locked up my pump on my D-180 today. Does anybody know where I can get a replacement?
Hodge71 665 #2 Posted May 19, 2013 (edited) Pretty much nowhere. I had to buy 4 pumps and 2 hydro motorss and rob parts from every one of them an rebuid my pump and hydro motor myself. These things are basically obsolete. You might be able to take a pump and motor from a C series and divorce and get it to work. I dont know anyone on here that has had success doing it though. One thing I can tell you is buyer beware. There are lots of pumps and hydro motors on ebay that the seller says "worked great when the tractor was parked"....dont believe everyone. Hence why I ended up buying so many to make 1 good one. Kelly whos a vendor is a great guy and can be trusted, maybe he can help Edited May 19, 2013 by hodge71
JamesBe1 84 #3 Posted May 19, 2013 I locked up my pump on my D-180 today. Does anybody know where I can get a replacement? Sorry to hear that. Like Jeff said, they are obsolete. You can try ebay, but it is a crapshoot. Also, you can try rebuilding it if you are inclined. There are a few videos and threads on here about how to rebuild one. Most but not all parts are obtainable. Also, if you should chance upon a new (NOS) pump, it isn't going to be cheap. I recall seeing one on ebay last year and just rolling my eyes at the price. Dunno if it ever sold. It was more than I paid for my tractor. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
pfrederi 18,703 #4 Posted May 19, 2013 There has been a NOS (supposedly) pump on Ebay for a long time for 8 or 900$$$ Now you say it locked up...I have opened several D pumps and found wear, corrosion and many other issues but never "locked up". It would be very difficult for the piston block to cause a lock up. I would have to guess (emphasize guess) that the problem is your charge pump, which is a gear pump, has some how failed or something got in it to jam it....but with 18 hp I would have thought something would have sheared/broken first. Are you sure your coupler hasn't broken /stripped???
JackC 617 #5 Posted May 20, 2013 Never heard of a pump locking up. Can you describe the situation further? If the pump is locked up the engine should be locked up also and not turn, is that the case?
wheeledhorseman 579 #6 Posted May 20, 2013 On the bright side, you're far more likely to find the parts you need in the US than I am here in the UK as there were only ever a few D's sold here. I remember pondering over that NOS pump but shipping it to the UK placed it into the bracket of being cheaper to buy another D that works even at the high prices D's fetch here! As Paul suggests, I'd want to establish exactly what's not working, if the pump did lock up then I'd expect the coupler to be demolished / or the drive stripped out. I've read here that couplers do break and need replacing not necessarily as a result of a pump problem. Good luck but let us know what you find in a little more detail. Hodge71 665 #7 Posted May 20, 2013 Heres a link to my thread on rebuilding the pump. Paul and I documented it last year. I was hoping an admin would have pinned it in the transmission section before it gets lost, as many people have commented on how helpful it was.
