My New Little Gem

Recommended Posts

My father (Shynon) and I went to go look at a 69 GT14 that I got a call about from a friend at a swap meet a little over an hour away. I talked to the seller he said the engine had been replaced with a 16hp kohler and it ran when he parked it 3 years ago. I was extremely excited to go get this wonderful deal. We negotiated a price, and got in the truck and went to pick up the tractor sight-unseen. We got there and frantically looked up and down the rows and there it was   it had been butchered beyond recognition and repair. There was a 16hp briggs not kohler! the gas tank missing, controls mounted to a piece of aluminum stock screwed to the side of the tower, fenders bent in every direction, and a nice big hole in the middle of the caved in hood for a tractor stack! I looked at the guy and told him NO :snooty:  I'm not interested, its too far gone even for parts! He had the nerve to tell me off because he turned people away because I was coming to get it, which I happily would have taken if it were 75% what he said it was! So upset about the loss we drove home and I cursed the whole way! My Father suggested we call Rydogg who was on our way home. He was home so we stopped in talked, admired his collection and wound up buying a pair of Rj58's. This will be my first mid engine tractor and plan on finishing the restore after I finish my 62 lawn ranger. So I guess you win some you lose some, but I can say my day got a whole lot better after picking up this Little Gem! :woohoo: Thanks again Ryan.rj58.jpg?t=1368357018

That can be a not so fun time when something like that happens when you drive a long way to look at a tractor. The Rj58 looks good though!

I'm happy it all worked out in the end for you. The GT 14 sounds like it was a real turd. (sounds like its owner was too!)

Isn't amazing what you will do when there's money buring a hole in your pocket? LOL!

Nice Score!

Call me crazy, but I don't think I would have ventured out that far to buy anything without first asking to see some pictures. However, I am glad that everything worked out with the other little gem.

I realize that Wheelhorse tractors are great machines. Sometimes what people have, what they think they have and what they're asking for a price and the value of it and how valuable of a tractor it is it's a little over-the-top.

Sorry about the bad deal on the GT14, but glad everything worked out for you to get a tractor.

Just what did the guy think the GT14 was worth in such bad shape?

Originally he was asking $400 but I had him way down on the price before I agreed to go see it
