Not sure what to get? Looking at an 854

I am looking for a tractor and tiller.  I have been leaning more and more toward Wheel Horse.  I found an 854 that looks to be in decent condition.  I have not seen it in person or heard it run yet, but I am not sure about the price range for any of the Wheel Horse tractors.  The person is asking $600 for the 854 is this a fair price?post-10376-0-61214500-1368404822.jpgpost-10376-0-61214500-1368404822.jpg

:WRS:  That looks to be a nice little horse! Looks like it has a nice set of ags on the back which can be worth some money. If it runs good and is in as good shape as it looks in the pics I think it worth about 4-500 bucks. It looks to have nothing incorrect other than the seat which the one on it will work fine unless you want 100% correct.

Is the fuel line running under the seat?? Or what is that :eusa-think:

I noticed that too. Looks like there might be a little plastic tank in the toolbox.

I bought some stuff from that guy early this year.  He has/had alot of WH stuff, but is getting out of the hobby.  He had probably a dozen listings on craigslist a month ago, but looks like the 854 is the only thing on there now.

I didn't look at that 854 very much when I was there since I already have one, but have since looked at that ad several times the past couple months wondering if I would have been better off going that route than redoing the $200 "barn fresh" 854 I got last fall.  Even though mine was complete, I will probably have over $600 in it by the time I am done redoing it (axle seals, hood seam re-welding, engine gaskets, tires, paint & decals) and that doesn't include my time.

The attachments I got from that guy had been blasted and had a good paint job on them.  If this tractor is the same way, that is a big plus.  The tires look good in the picture, so that is worth some money too.  The seat is not right for the 854, and it looks like he has a gas tank rigged up under the seat (guessing the original one leaks since most of them do) so that detracts from it somewhat.

I'm not a WH veteran by any means, but if it runs good, I think $600 for a redone 854 with a dozer blade and mower deck is a decent price.  Since it's been for sale for a while, I'd start at $500 and see if he takes it.  If he's got any of his other stuff left, you could always try bundling some other stuff in the deal too.

Just my 2 cents,

Dave

I don't think he is too far off base in asking 600.00 for it if it don't smoke and if it doesn't pop out of any of the gears. It has a real nice blade with a fresh cutting edge. The blade will set you back at least 1-150 bucks. The rear tires that are on it will set you back at least 95 each. I agree with Dave, see if he bites at 500.00

Thanks for all of the response.  Still looking around, never no may go back to this 854.  I really want to find a nice worker with a tiller.
