604 hood

Recommended Posts

I sanded down the hood on my 604 and found out that someone filled in a crack on the front corner of the hood. I don't have a welder. I wish I did, but I asked one of my friends who has one and we tried to fix the crack but the metal was so thinly made that the welder burned through it even on the lowest setting. I then tried JB WELD and it didn't hold either. What should I do?

Take it to a professional is my advice. I just tried welding a hood on a 653 and made a mess out of it. I knew better but you never know and that's how you learn. In my case lesson learned. :laughing-rofl:

Yeah you need a TIG welder to do it right and a good TIGger to put it down,  I fortunatly work with a guy who I swear could weld wood if we asked him to.

Other options with a MIG welder are to weld a tack let it cool weld a tack let it cool.....  takes awhile but it works.   Also you can try to gas weld it with a coat hanger or even braze it.  But both of these options also require a practiced hand.

So best option is to find a professional welder that does work on the side, or hang on to your wallet and take it to a weld shop.
