mowerman1193 42 #1 Posted May 3, 2013 My 1983 Work Horse GT1642 was in bad need of new tires on the front. Considering I want to go through the tractor at some point soon I thought while putting my new tires on I might as well paint the wheels. In the process of removing the Wheel bearing I damaged one of them. All of them are somewhat rough shape anyway. Anyone have a cheap source for the bearings? Honestly maybe they aren't that much as I have not even checked yet, For now I am more interested in wheel paint. I have done a search for what colors to use but all I find it for the almond colored Wheel Horse color not the more white Work Horse color. I do not care if its cans or for my spray gun..I can spray either one. Also another thought ( just now ) is the dust covers that I have never had on the tractor..Most likely a dealer item? Thanks in advance for any info / advice on my start of a project.. Kevin
Sparky-(Admin) 23,237 #2 Posted May 3, 2013 My local hardware store has them. Less than $5 if I remember right. Mike............
Don1977 605 #3 Posted May 3, 2013 Here you can order them. http://www.usabearingsandbelts.com/m7/100850--pfr-2214-2rs-3-4-bulk-bearings.html
squonk 43,899 #4 Posted May 4, 2013 There are a lot of different grades of those bearings. Some of the cheap ones are pretty chintzy. If you do a lot of work with the tractor I'd opt for the HD OEM's
Motor Head110 7 #5 Posted May 4, 2013 I used I-H White for the wheels on my 856. (Cheapy, oil based, tractor supply paint)
Trouty56 567 #6 Posted May 4, 2013 (edited) My choice is rustoleum appliance paint.....really thick and fills imperfections nicely..... I bought some bearings I think about a dozen for around 25 bucks....that was 3 years ago.....sealed bearings.....cleaned the wheels, put them in and never greased them. If they go I'll stick another set in. I really dislike grease on my front wheels. Edited May 4, 2013 by Trouty56
mowerman1193 42 #7 Posted May 4, 2013 Thanks for the replies everyone, I too hate having the grease on the wheels and was considering buying the sealed bearings and just running those..less mess that way. Kevin
sorekiwi 761 #8 Posted May 5, 2013 When replacing front wheel bearings now I always go for sealed bearings and I leave the seals in and never grease them again
