Fordiesel69 271 #1 Posted May 3, 2013 Mis-spelled Kohler. Sorry. http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/ac117/Fordiesel69/Temporary%20Pics/eeaa580ec46bb0d1e1a2925a69e6e524_zps7bd8eddf.jpg I have used the 3 jaw puller, sprayed with PB blaster and removed the two allen set screws. Lastly I heated with a smaller propane torch. Eventually I thought it was coming off, but rather it broke. Anyone have tricks other than taking it somewhere that has a big torch and turn it cherry red? I have a new crank seal and a new crankshaft coming. BTW, anyone have a pulley they could sell me? MarkPalmer 81 #2 Posted May 3, 2013 I would try a flywheel or harmonic balancer puller with some good grade 8 bolts in to the threaded holes. If that can't get it, I would cut it off. You always wonder how those stupid things get stuck on so hard. One time I had a centifugal clutch stuck on a Tecumseh, and I finally had to take the cutting torch to it. It was like it welded itself to the crank. -Mark-
WH nut 553 #3 Posted May 3, 2013 Double check and make sure you have the set srews loose. i have seen them double stacked to lock then in
MalMac 1,332 #4 Posted May 3, 2013 I second what WH nut said, I have seen many a time set screws double stacked. Came that way from the factory some times. I messed a crank up that way one time. Thought I had all the set screws loose only to find one still in there. Pulled the pulley off with a puller and left a groove all the way down. Never forgot that and now I always check. pacer 3,177 #5 Posted May 3, 2013 Another vote to ck for stacked set screws - I rebuild machinery as a hobby also and MANY machines have double set screws. I'm just finishing up a 1054 with the 10hp Kohler and the drive pulley was begging for adding a second set on it - which I promptly did.
roscoemi 245 #6 Posted May 3, 2013 Lot's of machinery have stacked set screws, found out the hard way. If not, a real torch or a a smaller one held on target for a while to make sure things are good and hot should do the trick.
Fordiesel69 271 #7 Posted May 3, 2013 I put a pick down in there to clean it out so the blaster would get in. No double stacked this time. I guess I will have to get a bigger torch.
