Justinc 8 #27 Posted May 6, 2013 Thanks guys, I'm very satisfied so far. Does anyone have any advice or tips about the idle and throttle cable that I mentioned in my last post?
cdsl810 181 #28 Posted May 6, 2013 Mine idles at around 1600rpm and tops out at 3600. I'm not sure that a stretched throttle cable is likely (not an expert, though), but it seems like something that can be set where the linkage attaches to the carb. Mine is working fine, so I haven't looked myself to see what kind of adjustments are available. My 15-44HXL has two set screws one for the upper and one for the lower limits. JackC 617 #29 Posted May 6, 2013 High idle at 1400 or higher is good to increase cooling air flow and to minimize carbon build up which can be a problem for the ONAN P series.
Justinc 8 #30 Posted May 7, 2013 A higer idle will help keep it cooler? Did i read that right? I fired it up this afternoon after sitting all night and day so it was def a true cold start. choked it and once fired I unchoked it and it idled at about 1600, then after about 10 seconds it went to 2 grand. Could the tac just be reading wrong? Looks like I might have to take the air cleaner base off and take a look just to ease my mind.
cheesegrader 433 #31 Posted May 7, 2013 Congrats! The replacement bulbs for the gauge lights are sylvania A51. There is a good post here somewhere that addresses the forward/reverse adjustment process. Very simple. The loose steering is a common problem, and is a little more work. Wide open throttle is 3600 rpm, idle on mine is about 800 rpm. 3000 is way too high.
Justinc 8 #32 Posted May 7, 2013 I adjusted the drive linkage last night, under the seat. There is a rod end with a bolt and nut through it and it just needed tightened up. Pretty close to factory now. The springs for both the attachment up and down lever and the drive lever behind the lower dash panel look to be fatigued. I could probably just replace those springs but I think i'll be fine for now. Also adjusted the PTO engagement too, was a tad loose. Now if i can get the idle lowered a bit i'll be cooking with gas. Speaking of gas, that P220g is thristy.
