Rear Engine Rider 108-05 33-08B503

Got a great deal on this old mower, free.  PO said that it was running before my friend picked it up.  Neither of us have been able to get it started as of yet.  I have power to the volt meter and the electric starter works if you jump power directly to the starter.  I would like to rig up a test board using toggle swtches and bypass the ignition switch and just power what I need to start and run the engine.  At this point I want to see if engine, transmission and if everything is working mechanically  before I sink too much time and money into the project.

Thanks,

Greg

Can not find a wiring diagram for this model but it is powered by a B&S engine. The ignition is the magneto type and self powered so find the ignition wire coming out of the engine and disconnect it. That allows the ignition to work. Get the engine turning and it should run. To shut it off ground the ignition wire you disconnected to the chassis or battery (-) negative terminal.

Warning - do not allow any battery voltage into the ignition wire. The magic smoke will appear.

Ok.  Solenoid bad, wiring bad, starter missing parts. ignition switch bad.  Still don't know if the engine is any good so I disconnected everything except for kill ground wire and altenator output wire.  Connected the alternator wire to the positive post of my battery, and tried to start the engine with an electric drill.  No good.  Shot srtarting fluid directly into the carburetor and the engine ran for a few seconds.  rebuilt the carb.  Carb bowl full of rust and float stuck.  Had to use an easy out to get the bottom jet out.  Fuel line and filter leaking so it was replaced.  Starts and runs on gas but there is somthing wrong with the linkage.  Choke and throttle has to be worked by hand.  Engine won't idle and wants to run away unless I work te idle by hand.  At least know I know the engine runs.  Once It is under control need to find out if the transmission, brakes and mower deck work.
