leeave96 488 #2 Posted April 29, 2013 I'm sure that tractor will fetch a large price - if it's anything like around my neck of the woods. I don't even go to these auctions anymore as it seems like even junk get's bid way up. But it is a very nice looking tractor!
ericj 1,578 #3 Posted April 29, 2013 i know that tractor was bought new by a retirement home and was never used for anything other than snow blowing. the guy that is selling it only used it for the same thing. he does have a reserve on it and it will not be bought for a song eric j
Hodge71 665 #4 Posted April 29, 2013 Its a shame how auctions have gotten in the last few years. I went to Fraleys last fall and saw many garden tractors in extremely rough shape, some not even running, go for 3 to 4X the actual value of them. I cant explain why someone would pay over $1300 for a non running 42-? series Deere with a window in the block and no implements. It boggles the mind how people run these things up, Wheel Horses included. I'm sure this guy wants way over a grand for the 314 above.....
6wheeler 668 #5 Posted April 29, 2013 I have never dealt with Smith Auctions. I would imagine that doing on line bidding would get rid of the scrap buyers. Then only people that are interested in say, that 314. Would only be serious buyers. Maybe he will get his price. That one does look like a very sharp tractor. I was at a consignment auction last Saturday and there were a few GT's some rough, some not. But 1 guy in particular was buying up all the older ones. . It seemed to me that he was paying way too much but then I overheard him say,"I'll have that one apart and all the parts on E-Bay by next weekend". I guess that explains alot. MalMac 1,332 #6 Posted April 29, 2013 It amazes me how people will drive up the price for a piece of junk, yet when you try and sell something they just don't try and talk down the price but give such a low ball offer that you can not even entertain the offer. We all want to pay as little as possible but most serious Wheel Horse people usually will come to a reasonable and fair price. But go to the auctions and it just goes nuts, I myself just stay away from them. I did put a tractor on at a auction and it went for more than I was asking in just selling it out right. The catch was, by the time I paid all the fees associated with the auction plus the transportation of getting said tractor there is was just a hair less than what I could have sold it outright for. I guess there are different ways of looking at a auction this is just my view.
ericj 1,578 #7 Posted May 3, 2013 i know a guy that when he get's a p.o.s. he take it to auction and dumps it. no bring backs, the old saying buyer beware come into play. and yes the reserve is well north of a grand eric j
bowtieguy 334 #8 Posted May 3, 2013 I know an auction that tells you before the sale starts...if we say it is good.......its probably bad.....it we say not so good......its really, really BAD!
Challenger 27 #9 Posted May 3, 2013 In my neighborhood that is a $1,600+ machine. And in my opinion that would be a good deal. If new what would it retail for? $6,500?
AMC RULES 37,147 #10 Posted May 3, 2013 Humm...low hours, and it is a good lookin' horse.
Ed Kennell 40,629 #11 Posted May 4, 2013 Just looked at this horse--2 mile from my home ---I could ride it home. Looks good except the left front spindle is worn out---probably from carrying that monster blower for 17 years.

Forest Road 594 #16 Posted May 9, 2013 $3100 is a bargain for that! I have a 314h with 200 hours and that blower. I spent about $1000 blasting painting and rebuilding the blower. I had a cab but unfortunately don't fit in them. Apparently the designer hated big guys!

cheesegrader 433 #19 Posted May 9, 2013 I can't believe it went over $2000. That's just crazy money for a 20 year old tractor.
Ken B 3,166 #20 Posted May 9, 2013 That is a ton of dough without a doubt, but......Who ever bought it probably needed a tractor like this one and they probably priced out new ones. In the buyers mind I bet he thinks he stole it in comparison to what 3100.00 will get him for a new piece of junk. I'd be willing to bet who ever bought it isn't a collector. The cab alone will set you back at least 800 when buying new. My 520 has 200 hrs. on it and is super clean, maybe I'll send it thru an auction.......
6wheeler 668 #21 Posted May 9, 2013 Jeez, I will sell all my tractors plus the implements I have for that price. Of course, then the buyer will have to mow my grass and work up my gardens for me . While I of course, watch ......
