varosd 1,185 #1 Posted April 23, 2013 Are there any plus/minus to using metal or regular gaskets for the cylinder head?
Jim_M 179 #2 Posted April 23, 2013 (edited) Metal gaskets are reuseable but hard to seal. Unless you're removing the head a lot, go with a standard gasket. Edited April 24, 2013 by Jim_M
varosd 1,185 #3 Posted April 23, 2013 thanks Jim it would seem to me that the metal may last longer but harder to seal w/o some sorta blue goo!
Fordiesel69 271 #4 Posted April 25, 2013 Composite gaskets "without" the fire rings have never worked for me. The metal seemed to work very well.
MarkPalmer 81 #5 Posted April 25, 2013 I use the Stens metal head gaskets with the metal ring, and have never had one fail. They do require 2 or 3 re-torques after heating and cooling cycles, and clean un-warped deck and head surfaces are necessary. As a general rule I never re-use any head gasket regardless of material, they are cheap enough to not be worth taking any chances with. -Mark-
