I'm looking at a 416-8. It's got 48 inch deck

And rear wheel weights. Anybody have one of

These tractors and any pros or cons. Thanks

What motor does it have the Kohler or the Onan ? That way we can get a yr on it.

Should have an 8 pinion rear in it so thats a good thing.   I've had a couple with the Kohlers in them and have one with the Onan in it, That will be looking for a new home soon

It's got the onan with less than 800 hours. I'm

Pretty sure I can get for 500

I would certainly take a look. My 416-8 is a Kohler. I love this spirited Stallion.

I have a 520-8 Onan in my Herd and it is quickly becoming my favorite Horse. Only 'cause of

the engine sound and the power. This Horsey climbs! Mows! All effortlessly too!

Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the info guys. I had a c-161 but broke

A rod and never got it going again. I've heard

Good things about the hydro models but

The eight speeds seem to me would be stronger

Those 520-8s are pretty rare from what I've seen!

I have one with an Onan in it. If it had a 48" deck it would be my favorite by far! Awesome power, awesome cut with the 42" deck, it will push snow any where I want it too and probably the most comfortable tractor that I have ever driven! You will not be disappointed!

The 416 with a Kohler is on my short list!!

But a 416 with a good running Onan would suffice....if it runs good, that's a good price!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 416-8 with an Onan, great tractor!  Pushes more snow than I would have believed.

Onans are really mean engines, but look at the condition of the tractor pretty close... hopefully if it's a well cared for tractor the engine has been taken care of too.  It will probably need its valves adjusted.

Is the valve adjustment an onan thing

Or just on the 16hp version?

I adjust all my tractors valves.......(if it's capable of being done)  Kohler or Onan.

Valve adjustments tend to become a problem more on the Onans though.  Do them every couple hundred hours and you'll be fine, I can't remember the recommended service interval.

I have a 416-8 with the onan.... Love it... Pushed a ton of snow this year with it. I have the 42 SD deck and mows fine. As everyone states how they love the sound of the onan, I totally agree, they sound so cool. The only things that I had to fix on mine was a short in the headlights, put a clutch return spring on because the gas shock thingy quit working, and tighten the rivit on the throttle lever pivot so the lever would keep the ole onan humming at high RPM's. Keep grass out of the flywheel screen to help keep it cool. Also check to make sure the rubber boot is not wore out on the 1-2-3-r shifter on top of tranny, seen a lot of post of other members replacing worn out ones. Hope you get it, you won't be Disappinted!! Gregg

You can get to an attachment list here

https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/index.cfm?xCaller=Toro

Type in 416-8 and select your model from the list. On the right is a link to the attachment list. Then clicking on an attachment model number will take you to the parts list in most cases. These are what were sold at the time so often there are many more older and newer models that will also fit.

can whlvr

im surprised no one has mentioned to fix the 161,if the rod didnt destroy the engine i would rebuild it,the 16 hp kohler is a very good motor, and the c serires are great tractors and can use all the attachments the 416 can, basically they are very similar tractors,i have a few 400 series tractors and a few c series,i love both

Shifter on my 416-8 came out. Can't tell what transmission it even is to find a manual. Probably new sometime around 1972. Any advice?
