hey guys i was wire wheeling my hood today to get it ready for some bondo work and i figured i should take off the hood ornament and i got 1 clip thing off but the other broke off with the post/stud on the ornament. so i was wondering where i can get a new hood ornament and those clip things. nd if some body could tell me how they work because the first one i took a pair of vise grips of twisted and pulled and it came off. the other one the light assembly was in the way so i took a screwdriver and pried and thats when it broke. so i would like to know how they work for when i go to put the new one on. on another note (good) the bondo repair has started and should be done soon.

heres some pics

This has come up before.  I think I have some Polish in me (and I mean that in a good way).  I would look at cutting off the stud and put a glob of JB Weld in there and set a 1/8" bolt in the weld so I could nut it on the other side.  What do ya think?? :)

The trick to getting the clips off without this happening is to get a tiny screwdriver and pry up the little tags that grip the shaft before trying to remove it. Levering under the washer thing just makes the tags grip harder. Having said that you may now hit me.

Having been cyber hit, the solution Stevasaurus has offered seems a very good one.

Use clear silicone.....it will hold great and you won't see it (if you do it right)
