Let there be light! - head lights & grille for the 1054

And then there was light!

 

What with the 1054 - and a few other models - having those weensy 3" light openings in the housing, you have to be innovative to get some light on the subject. (and a lot of other places on these 'getting older every minute' tractors). Jeremi here on the forum gave me the clue to start looking - and within a couple days HF (I admit it, I love HF!) sent me the sale flyer and there they were at a whopping $7.99, halogen work lights. They are 4" with a rubber housing making them some 5" total, but by making a fixture to press down on the rubber facing from the back and centering the sealed beam in the 3" opening, it makes a pretty nice fit up.  I had a piece of box iron in 2x3" and sliced off a short piece, then cut a piece of 1/8" sheet and done a little bit of bending to make it press on the back of the light housing, which seems to have them well anchored. And being halogen, they are bright!

Along with no lights, I also didnt have a grille. I had been keeping an eye out for a suitable candidate for some 3-4 weeks now, not really wanting to use regular expanded metal - which I had plenty of -  so a couple days ago I went round back of the shop and spotted an old belt guard off a one time air compressor. It had expanded metal, but was the flat kind in a smaller triangle - lookin good!

looks real good! may have to do that with mine. my headlights still work rather nice on my 1054 but those work out real nice!
