First Mowing of the year - The Lawn Ranger got the honor

Recommended Posts

We've finally had enough nice days that the grass has grown enough to mow it.  I decided it would be a good chance to put the Lawn Ranger through the paces.

I got the Ranger from fellow RS member earlier this year.  (Thanks again DJ!)  It didn't take much to get it going.  It had one rear tire that went flat so I changed both rears out for ones I had laying around.  When I first got it running, it would only run on full choke so I swapped the carb out for one from a blown up tiller motor I had.  That carb took a rebuild, but now runs great.  I changed all the fluids, greased the fittings, sharpened the blades, and away it went.

The gear drive deck has a little different sound to it than I am used to (a missing tooth on one gear doesn't help) but it did a really nice job mowing my grass.  I decided to put it to a even tougher test by mowing some really tall grass behind my neighbor's house that he mentioned he was wanting to cut.  I have tried it with some other mowers in the past that quickly plugged up, but the rear-discharge deck really worked well for the tall stuff.  The only problem was before I knew it I ran it out of gas.  All-in-all, I was pretty impressed with the little Lawn Ranger!

Looks like it did a great job mowing! The grass is getting greener here too, probably ready to be mowed in less than a week!
