1054 linkage/spring, idler pulley

Recommended Posts

pacer

Am starting to remount some of the linkages and misc and have already got questions---

I did not have the clutch idler pulley when I got the tractor, it would seem to be a common 'V' type that would be available at a big box store -- but would like to be sure, anyone got the dimensions on it?

Also, got the clutch/brake linkage on and know that it has to have a spring. I had this one in the loose pieces of stuff I got with the tractor and might  be the correct one (it is quite beefy), but I question it riding on top of the brake lining band when mounted - which it will if connected as in the picture. Will this be the proper mounting points?

Next, is the cable going back to the rear lift.  It is a sheathed cable, but seemingly no way to fix/mount it so the cable will slide in the sheath - no mounting points that I can find, I just have it pinned at the frame and at the lift. Then I also would think that a spring would be necessary somewhere in there to retract the cylinder, but I dont have another spring nor do I readily see a mounting point for a spring... anybody got a description of the proper mounting of this?

The idler pulley is three inches in diameter and is for a 1/2 wide belt. There will also be a short spacer behind it to space away from the arm it mounts to. The clutch return spring looks to be the correct one and yes it sits on top of the brake band. The lift cable looks correct also and none of the three that I have are clamped anywhere either. Your question about a return spring for the lift cylinder is no return spring needed because the cylinder is a double acting so you get pressure both in and out , Now the only issue that i see is that your belt guides. The rod that comes down from the fender you have it at the front of the drive pulley and it needs to be moved towards the rear of the drive pulley so that it almost contacts the belt but not . That way when you depress the clutch pedal it keeps the belt from riding out of the pulley. Also there is a piece of angle that goes on the bottom of the frame in the hole just below the drive pulley and runs up to the engine it mounts on the same bolt that the pto rod does.

Guess i need to type faster lol

The 1536 bushing or spacer is 3/8" ID by 3/16" long. A few flat washers should be suitable if needed.

Thanks Josh, good stuff.

The lift cable is an oddity - I get the impression it is a transplant from another use - park brake cable? maybe since a fixed rod couldnt be routed back there the sheathed cable was to give it some rigidity?

The rod attached to the fender is just hanging loose, I knew it would be used as a belt 'guide'. I also have the long angle piece belt guide.

The tractor was really quite complete, though sorely neglected - the PO said the idler went bad and he removed it to replace and never got around to it and it got lost over time

Actually, this is original equipment. I was thinking my cables (maybe not all) had a single clamp under the seat area to keep the outer sheath from moving.
