SolarStallion 38 #1 Posted April 5, 2013 Hi, Just picked up a GT 2500 Aniversary Edition. The engine has a problem starting. It will start with starting fluid and run with full throttle but as soon as I try to lower the throttle it stalls and will not start again unless I use the fluid. Also should there be some kind of cap on the carb where it is open below the air filter? Thanks
jimt1971 237 #2 Posted April 5, 2013 I saw that on Craigslist yesterday. You got a good deal on that. And yes that hole should be covered. Jim
855ownerJoel 32 #3 Posted April 5, 2013 My first recommendation would be never to use starting fluid on a small engine. Very hard on them. You have a carb fuel problem or gasket leak that it will not idle. The carb should be cleaned and reset completly and all gaskets, including the gasket connecting to engine should be checked and most likely replaced. And yes that should be covered where it is open below air cleaner. I believe that had a plug in it origionally.
SolarStallion 38 #4 Posted April 5, 2013 Hi, Thanks for the replies. I only use the fluid as a last resort to help in troubleshooting. The person selling it claimed he had the carb repaired last year. I tried looking at photos of other ones and it almost looks like there was some kind of spring operated door covering the hole. I'll keep tinkering with it. Thanks, Steve
Don1977 605 #5 Posted April 6, 2013 If you can't find a plug that will stay in you might have to buy a carburetor. That end is supposed to be sealed tight.
VinsRJ 723 #6 Posted April 7, 2013 Locate the part number for the weltch plug for the card and search ebay... I have found a couple of them on there before. And I use brake cleaner as starting fluid... LOL!
SolarStallion 38 #7 Posted April 7, 2013 Hi, I looked at parts tree and could not find that part listed. Anyone know where else to look for the welch plug part? Also it does not list what engine it is, does anyone have that info? Thanks
Buckshot 1 15 #8 Posted April 7, 2013 If you could provide us with the engine numbers, we maybe able to help you out. As stated there definitely should be a welch plug on the end of that carb.
