1054 seat replacement

My 1054 came without a seat, just the box tubing frame piece, and where it attached to the fenders the 4 adjustment slots were a mess with spider web cracks runnig all over and the box tubing where the bolts went thru was squashed badly - it was a mess. On prowling ebay I found a gazillion seats of all sorts, but not having anything to compare to, it was somewhat difficult to decide just which one to get and feel somewhat confident I could retrofit it to the rather oddball original location. Finally decided on one that had been removed from a Target handicappped scooter - it was cheap, and in very cood condition! On getting it I then had to figure how to adapt it and not have it look like it was cobbled up. Since the 1054 has the gas tank under the seat, any installation had to allow for access for gassing up, so the seat had to tilt. I prowled through my scrap pile and dry fitted pieces of angle iron and some flat pieces and just couldnt see anything coming together. So then I remembered an old treadmill I had kept some pieces of the frame off of - success! found a piece of 1x2" box and it with a couple pieces of 1" angle looked to be the way to go. I get some nice shiney red paint on the fenders and the seat frame and it oughta look pretty good.

Speaking of the gas tank ... my tanks bottom was rotten with hundreds of holes in it and thick scales of rust inside - it was shot. Prowling the web I found Briggs & Stratton offered 3 "remote" tanks in 4 - 6 & 8 quart, these are just a generic squarish tank. The 8 qt was just a hair to big to fit into the 1054's space, so I got the 6 qt. Cutting and shortening the original straps, and again seating the new tank in a couple pieces of wood, it fit up pretty nicely.

I'm finding this old tractor to be in considerably worse condition than I originally thought ... I think by getting it from the original 88 yr old owner I kinda expected more, you know "only driven to church on the week ends" kinda thing....
