Wheel horse 877 voltage regulator

Hey guys I'm new to this community I got a problem with my voltage regulator not sure if I got it hooked up backwards or not but once I disconnect a backup battery the tractor does after a minute or so if you guys got a voltage regulator wiring diagram for a 1967 wheel horse model 877 it'd be greatly appreatied

This is a Kohler manual that has a section on the starter/generator

Would it have a difference if I upgraded the motor the voltage regulator should still be fine correct
