Kevbo 81 #1 Posted March 26, 2013 Hey guys I am currently restoring a 42 RD that I got that seems pretty old. You can tell it was made with heavier steel than recent deck models. The flat idler bearing was stuck but I got it moving again...however, it feels rough when it spins. Would you recommend replacing it? If so, are all flat idlers on the 42 RD decks inerchangeable? I'll get a picture on here soon to help.
Kevbo 81 #2 Posted March 26, 2013 (edited) Looks like this one here: 3/8" Edited March 26, 2013 by Kevbo
WH854 45 #3 Posted March 26, 2013 Looks like this one here: 3/8" Flat idler pulley? looks like a V idler to me. Chas
Kevbo 81 #4 Posted March 26, 2013 Yea I guess that's what it is. Sorry, anyone have a part number?
dbartlett1958 99 #5 Posted March 26, 2013 Kevin, I have a 42 inch RD deck, # 15-42RC01. My parts list shows the idler pulley to be part # 112425. I can't guarantee the number has not changed.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,489 #6 Posted March 26, 2013 Here are the deck model numbers from oldest to newest 65-42MR01 Replaced by 75-42MR01, 75-42MR02, 85-42MR01, 95-42MR01, 95-42MR02, 05-42MR01, 05-42MR02, 05-42MR03, 05-42MR04, 15-42RC01, 15-42RC02, 78350 Most list a 6719 replaced by 92-7101 flat pulley that is 3-3/4" OD x 3/4" wide with a 3/8" hole Some possible replacements Stens 280-099 Std, 280-578 HD, (280-114 HD may work) Napa 7-05207 Since some of the ipl's are shared with side discharge and 48" decks the parts lists fail to identify what uses what when more than one flat idler is shown. Garry Adding 92-7101 pulley replaces 6719, 112425 and 519537
groundhog47 347 #7 Posted March 26, 2013 Concur totally with Garry and especially correct about 42/48 sharing, I got the wrong one like that and had to reorder. Thanks to a member on here it sold. I have an after market, the pulley is stable and the bar it rides on wobbles a bit. Don't know if wobble or lip on pulley causes belt to jump. It'll jump in a heartbeat and haven't corrected yet. It may be bushings under bar so you might wish to check yours also, mine will be checked before this newly ordered belt goes to work!
WH854 45 #8 Posted March 26, 2013 42 inch idler Pulley P/N92-7101 48 inch idler pulley P/N 93-1622.This came from my manual on mowers C & D Series. As far as the wobble may be the bar slots are worn or the bushings (the bushings are made out of hard plastic) could even be the spring needs changed! this has been my experience. C-85 753 #9 Posted March 26, 2013 I have a question along these lines, does anyone offer a high quality pulleys like the kind all of our tractors use? Ones that are greasable or cast, maybe with a replacable bearing? Basically ones that last!
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,489 #10 Posted March 26, 2013 The Stens 280-578 likely has a real bearing in it and the 2 pulley halves are riveted together. Drill out the rivets and replace what may be a popular 6203-2RS bearing when it goes. I have bushings that will press into the metric ID and reduce it to 3/8", 1/2" or 5/8". Check the Stens pulley here http://www.bantasaw.com/ Click on the 1st line when the search result comes up. Garry
Kevbo 81 #11 Posted March 26, 2013 So I see that mine is officially a V idler, so my question is: Where do I find a V idler for my deck? What would be the part number for a V idler? How old is my 42 RD if it is using a V idler?
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,489 #12 Posted March 27, 2013 Not aware of a 42" rear discharge deck that uses a V-idler pulley. Are you speaking of the V-idler at the front pair of idlers out front of the tractor frame? Look at the illustrations here but don't trust the parts lists. https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/index.cfm?xCaller=Toro I listed the model numbers a few posts back. What model of tractor is this deck for? Garry
Kevbo 81 #13 Posted March 27, 2013 Bought the deck separately but the v idler is definitely off the deck. Hmmm...what do I do?
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,489 #14 Posted March 27, 2013 Post a picture of the deck so we know where this V-idler pulley is located. Garry
Kevbo 81 #15 Posted March 27, 2013 Here she is before I disassembled and e-tanked everything. See that there idler pulley? V shaped. Anyone know the year or model? I could not find any identification on the deck itself.
dbartlett1958 99 #16 Posted March 27, 2013 I think somebody changed the pulley somewhere along the way. The flat side of the belt should not run in a V-groove pulley. JMHO
Kevbo 81 #17 Posted March 27, 2013 Interesting! So then will any of the above mentioned flat idler pulleys work for this deck?
WH854 45 #18 Posted March 27, 2013 (edited) I think somebody changed the pulley somewhere along the way. The flat side of the belt should not run in a V-groove pulley. BOWTIE 226 #19 Posted March 27, 2013 KEVIN, IT LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE THE 48" DECK V IDLER PULLEY ON THERE. THE 42" IDLER SHOULD BE THE SAME DIAMETER AS THE OUTER SPINDLE PULLEY. GUYS CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG. GARRY IN CANADA HAS THE CORRECT PART NUMBER LISTED. YOU CAN TRY TO REMOVE THE SEALS ON THE ORIGINAL AND CLEANING IT. THEN REPACK IT WITH GREASE IF NOT TO BAD. IF IT CATCHES WHEN SPINNING IN YOUR HAND IT IS JUNK OR A SPARE. BOWTIE
BOWTIE 226 #20 Posted March 27, 2013 OOPS MY MISTAKE IT IS A FLAT IDLER I SAID V IDLER. BOWTIE
