csvt99 173 #1 Posted March 24, 2013 My 8 hp 877 is very loud. I would like to replace the muffler with something that will piss off my neighbors a little less. 1. I have concerns about being able to get the original one off. Any tips? 2. Does anyone have a good source for a replacement? I've seen some pics here of tractors with custom muffler set ups. I don't need anything fancy, just something to keep the noise at a reasonable level. pfrederi 18,644 #5 Posted March 25, 2013 This is a cheap replacement muffler used on Cu Cadets and others usually on ebay for less than $30. Quitter than the pepper pot. I do not find stacks to be practical on working tractors what with tree branches and th exhaust being just a bout face height breathing fumes all the time. I have this muffler on my Ranger with an 8 hp Kohler I really like it on the small block Kohler, quieter than a pepper pot, but also a lot less harsh sounding. I also have one on a big bock Kohler (12hp) and its still way to noisy on that, but on thhe 8 hp I think its great. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Yep, thats the Stens replacement for the Gravely. I can find a part # if you need it. I like the horizontal 300 series mufflers too, but havent found a cheapy aftermarket one yet. sorekiwi 761 #15 Posted March 31, 2013 I have always intended to put a heat shield on that muffler, but in 3 years or so I havent got around to it. It hasnt damaged the paint at all, or the decal which is right there. My plan was to weld 4 small threaded bungs onto the muffler and fit a thin pice of stainless with about a 3/8" air gap to the muffler. One day I might do it. I just a k301 on a c-85. Replaced the k181 and have temp. fit the muffler off the k181. but it is very very loud. csvt99 173 #17 Posted December 27, 2022 So nearly 10 years later, I'm finally replacing the K181 on my 877. I'm either going to put the stock pancake pepper pot on it, or something else. This will be a working tractor, used by my two boys around the yard to get used to using equipment for work and how to back up a trailer etc. I want to keep it relatively simple and inexpensive.
