Stormin 9,976 #1 Posted March 23, 2013 There's a Toro Wheel Horse 255-H in an auction on Monday. I'm sorta kinda interested but would like to know what year it is. Unfortunately I could not locat serial number etc. on the tractor. The engine is a Kohler 16hp v twin. Model no CV16S. Spec. no 61514. Serial no 2406800917. It has 1891 hours on. Can anyone tell me year of make and good and bad points about the engine.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,551 #2 Posted March 23, 2013 The 266-H with that engine was sold 1994-1996 1994 model 72083 Use 4912345 for a serial number 1995 model 72084 Use 5912345 for a serial number 1996 model 72084 Use 6912345 for a serial number Kohler made the engine in 1994 so likely a 1994 or 1995 model tractor. Check these sites for parts list https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/index.cfm?xCaller=Toro and manuals https://lookup3.toro.com/request/request.cfm If you end up with it there are many service bulletins on this model. Kelly 1,028 #3 Posted March 23, 2013 The engine are for the most part good, the trans is what I would worry about.
Stormin 9,976 #4 Posted March 23, 2013 Thanks lads. Appreciated. I'll see how the bids go. What's the problem with the trans, Kelly? A bit on the weak side?
Stormin 9,976 #5 Posted March 23, 2013 Had a look at the sites Garry suggested. I reckon it is a '94. Any suggestions on a price? It runs and is unmolested with no obvious damage, dents or dings. It is rather tatty though.
DOC in Kentucky 178 #6 Posted March 23, 2013 I have a Toro 267H bought new in 1996 and mowed with it til 2011 with out a problem. Was on my Third set of blades on the recycler deck. Retired it for trailer duty. Still cut and ran like brand new. The only thing it ever needed was a new drive train belt and that is a booger to put on. Wife still uses it regurlarly for tending her flower beds and vegetable garden.
zieg72 209 #7 Posted March 29, 2013 I had a 269H, also a 1996, strong to the day I sold it. Steering is the weak link IMO.
