thomas 11 #1 Posted March 20, 2013 I can not get the belt loose enough, to engage the gears. Even with the belt loose (not going under the idle bearing) the belt still turns the transmission pulley. Much too much to allow putting it into gear. I put on a one inch longer belt Which allowed 90% slippage - but then, does not - allow for much tension when releasing the pedal. Anybody else had this problem? Solution? ( I found if I slow the engine RPM to the point of the engine stopping - it helps - trouble is if often does stop, at that slow of RPM) Any suggestions?. TT-(Moderator) 1,129 #2 Posted March 20, 2013 #1 - what model tractor are your working with? #2 - is the belt guard (and all related guides) installed?
puddlejumper 67 #3 Posted March 20, 2013 Thomas if its the suburban with the horseshoe belt gaurd you are going to have to build some carriers to adjust under the belt to hold it up when clutched, the original belt gaurd done this for you. what youve done wil/should work just needs a little support under the belt. Don1977 604 #5 Posted March 22, 2013 A long with the support under the bottom of the belt it needs a belt guide above the top of the drive pulley. This make the belt extend out from the front of the drive pulley so that it doesn't pull the belt.
Retired Wrencher 4,909 #6 Posted March 23, 2013 The experience that I have is it is the fingers at the end next to the pulley need to be open up.so the belt slips then you can put it into gear. This has work for me in the past. Gary B.............
