davemello 0 #1 Posted March 19, 2013 Hey all, I have an old c-141 in really bad shape, that came with my property. I'm trying my best to get her running, but so far, its slow going Trying to start her up this year, and nothing happens. I then tried hooking her up to another mower via jumper cables, and the engine turned right over. Let her charge up, took off the cables - and then one weak attempt to turn over, then nothing. Tried this on a couple of different new batteries, with the same result... If anyone has any tips as to where I could start looking, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! jeremi3210 742 #2 Posted March 19, 2013 Asuming all those batt are good and fully charged i would look at the starter relay.
Sparky-(Admin) 23,269 #3 Posted March 20, 2013 Turnin over weakly with multiple batteries ? I would be removing and cleaning all my battery cable connections at the battery, the starter, the solinoid, and the ground. Mike..............
posifour11 723 #4 Posted March 20, 2013 I think the simplest first. Connections and grounds. Like sparky said.
tunahead72 2,553 #5 Posted March 21, 2013 Have you done voltage tests on any of these batteries? I'd recommend at least 12.6 volts at rest before you try to start your tractor -- a little less voltage might still get it started, but probably not if any of your connections are loose or dirty. Good luck, and welcome to here!
rmaynard 16,354 #6 Posted March 21, 2013 Don't forget that a C-141 has a cradle-mounted engine. The biggest problem with them is the grounding from the engine to the cradle, and the cradle to the frame.
Don1977 605 #7 Posted March 23, 2013 Try a good battery sound like the one you have is bad.
chrisd200(inactive) 56 #8 Posted March 24, 2013 Sounds like a ground issue. If you haven't already, may want to get a volt meter and see what your getting at the starter. That will tell you a lot.
Don1977 605 #9 Posted March 25, 2013 If it was a bad ground he would have to clamp the negative cable to the engine to get it to start. If both cables to the battery it still would not start with a bad ground.
