1971 Raider 10 restoration finally starts

Recommended Posts

raider10-8

hey guys. ive decided to finally start a thread about my raider 10 and starting the restoration. i did some other threads for parts or help rebuilding the trans...... but thats all done and im ready to start the restoration process. i have some pics for you guys because i know thats what we all like. but any ways i have some pics of the dash that i just got out. it has some pitting. do u guys think it is still good to use?? and does any one know where i can get the original light switch? and also i dont have a choke cable hooked up nor do i plan on hooking one up because it has the tecumseh engine in it. so i was wondering when i put the dash decal on there how will i get knock out that fills the holes to match. my dad is an electrician so he has them but how do i get them chrome to match the "brushed aluminum" back round on the decal. thanks. and any other tips or suggestions would help because this is my first restoration....... of anything! ohh and sorry for the pics being sideways i took them with my ipod

sorry forgot to mention that it came with a deck the i am hopefully going to restore and use. and heres the rest of the pics

Looks like youv'e got your work cut out for you in spots. That dash panel is pitted pretty badly

it may not hold a decal very well . it would likely peel off around the edges. Try Kelly in our vendors section he

will most likely have one or five. he would likely have a switch as well . Also i did see one on E-BAY Try typing this in e-bays search box it was an NOS switch.

I believe guys have blasted those dash panels and skimmed some putty into them.  Maybe they built it up with filler primer.  But they have gotten them to look nice so the decal sticks.  Keep searching for information here.  You'll probably get some hits on this thread also for other members.

I have a HH100 and it has a choke.  Why do you not need one???

I'm guessing you are after the light switch......I think I saw on here where someone had a replacement for those also.  Gonna have to wait for those who know.......

Edit.....Never mind on the light switch.....the previous post has a good source.....when I read the description I saw PTO and thought it was the wrong one.  I looked at it and it does look close if not correct.

yaa i figured out what im goin to do about the pitting of the dash. and i did find a light switch. is 19$ a good price for OEM NOS light switch? and if u have the hh100 with a choke on it, would you mide posting a pic of how you have it connected to the carb. the only reason i wasn't goin to use a choke cable was because theres no wheres to hook it up to the carb. so i was just not going to use one.

Hey Andrew...try rotating those pictures 90 degrees when you are ready to post them...I have to put on my anti-gravity suit so I can stand on the side of my computer to see them. :ychain:

got the engine out and cleaned the frame and is pretty much ready for paint.  i painted almost all of the engine tins. when i took the front assembly off the left spindle fell out. i looked and there was no E-clip at the top. i looked closer and there was no line or groove for it to go in but i then cleaned the grease off and saw that it was there but had grease in it..... but it is partly rounded over.  i think i should still be able to get a E-clip in it though. and i dont know what its called but the piece of metal that the spindle goes into and that goes to the tractor, well a piece of metal chipped out of it. its in one of the pics. ohh and my ball joint i guess you call it, well that just fell out. the other one stayed in. will that still work if not how do i fix it. ( again you will see in the pics)

Better get a new axle/spindle set....lol.....just about everybody has one laying around.  I'm sure you can get one.  So for tie rods I have made them already with parts from online but if you want to stay pure I' sure somebody probably has a set of them too.

The lower one was the rear fender decal from 65-68 and was also used on implements.

the top decal went on the rear fender in 69-72 (or maybe 73... I'm not sure and too lazy to look right now.)

on my 73 8/4 speed it has the top decal on the the back of it, as it does not have any lights on it. i am looking at making a set that i can just do a quick attach so i can try to keep it as original as possible. still going through the wiring as someone did some quick patching on it. working on building  a new wiring harness for it.
