Black Hood Questions

Recommended Posts

leeave96

I gather the black hood Wheelhorse tractors were between the earlier C series tractors and the later 300, 400 and 500 series tractors. Aside from the black hood paint scheme, what is similar and different about these tractors compared those that came before and after. What were their strengths and weaknesses? They look interesting to me and one might find itself in my fleet down the road. Thanks!!! Bill

The 3rd generation of C series tractors was built from 1980-84 and isn't much more than a styling change from the 2nd generation C series tractors. Part way through 1980, the automatic models received the 1100 series Eaton hydro unit and matching Uni-Drive.

The upper hoodstand / dash is all one piece (aluminum) and many of them had the fragile plastic rear fender.

If you aren't fond of their Transformers robot appearance (I'm not tease.gif ), they can easily be converted to the previous C series style or to the 300/400 style by swapping a few parts.

Seems some like em some don't. I do, they look neat. Rubber engine mounts work good, until they wear out, but that takes a while.

I think that they look good cleaned up and with the newer steel fender instead of the fiberglass one.

yep they definitely look better with the steel fenders, either the GT1800 type ,3,4, or 500 series ones or the cxx1 series......
