Need Help Adjusting Kohler RPM

Recommended Posts

Wheel-N-It

Guys, I just purchased a MAC digital engine tuning tool from a good friend of mine who is getting out of the mechanic trade. One of the things it will do is check engine RPM on a single cylinder engine. I would like to set the maximum engine RPM on my Wheel Horses that are listed below. I think some Kohler RPM is 3200 max, while others are 3600 max.

Can any of you fellows guide me through the process of how to do this corectly?

FYI, just in case it matters, the K301 on the C-125 is rubber mounted, the rest are solid mounted. Also I do not know if any of the single cylinder engines have balance gears or not.

Thank you,

Van

I believe all of your tractor engines should be set at 3600 rpm. Set up your tool to measure rpm, set your throttle lever to full open throttle, adjust the throttle cable and conduit at the clamp which holds it in place until it is locked down and the engine is turning at 3600 rpm.

You may want to make proper adjustments to the governor and carb before you set the rpm as these could change them if adjusted after.

Thank you John, thats what I thought was the way to go about it. I just wanted to make sure there was not anything I needed to adjust with the governor linkage or anything else. The governor does seem to be working just fine as is on all the Wheel Horses.

Van I would be interested in finding a tool that you described someday. Any idea where I can find one for sale or what model you have?

Kevin, shoot me a PM tomorrow. I will get back to you with the information. Right now, the instrument is in my roll around toolbox in the shop, and I am in my VanCave (on RS) :handgestures-thumbupright:
