Engine Color

On the black hoods was the engine block a gloss black? The shroud I have here looks to be more of a satin and the block is or appears to have been painted gloss. This motor is original and has not been repainted before. I have another black hood that is well lets say well used and been in the weather so it's faded and hard to tell what the original was. or was the whole thing painted in a gloss?

Just a guess but I would say its a satin and not a gloss. I have a C-165 and its not a shiny paint job on the motor.....but it is is 29 years old so maybe its just faded out and aged.

Kohler called it "matte black" and it used to be available in a 12 oz. aerosol under P/N 221300-S.

 

Apparently all of the OEM aerosol engine paints have now been discontinued - and that includes B&S too.
