Wheelhorse84 87 #1 Posted February 24, 2013 What's the proper way to clean an onan carb? Do you take it apart or spray it while its running ?
Sparky-(Admin) 23,265 #2 Posted February 25, 2013 I pulled the top off mine so I could clean the inside. I doubt spraying anything down the throat is gonna clean much. Mike...............
Wheelhorse84 87 #3 Posted February 25, 2013 Did you need a new gasket while putting it back together? And did you pull jets out to clean? Thanks Mike
sorekiwi 761 #4 Posted February 25, 2013 I've never had to do a full on cleaning of an Onan carb. All I have ever had to do is remove the idle mixture screw and blast through the idle passages with (aerosol) carb clean followed by compressed air. Do check the float bowl for dirt though. The lid should come off without damaging the gasket, and the fuel level in the carb should be below the level of the gasket anyway.
Mr. 856 170 #5 Posted February 25, 2013 I dont know onan carbs at all but do know carbs pretty well and really the only good way to clean a carb it to take it apart and soak it, blow it out, inspect parts, replace needed parts, etc, etc. I beleieve the onan to be diesel and im nto familiar with them and diesle effects on carbs. so I could be steering you wrong. If its a 2 or 4 stroke then do as I said.
