Two additions to my stable

As if I don't already have enough horses - yeah right!

Last weekend I picked up this little 1974 A-800 Ranger.

It's a non-runner at present - PO tried and gave up, I've had a quick go but no luck so far.

With the shortened hood, little wheels, narrow foot rests - perfect miniature horse, just couldn't resist it's charm.

At the other end of the scale, and madness I know; this weekend I picked up another 'D-200'

I must learn to hand the camera to my son and sit on the tractor myself for these photo shoots!

Made what I thought was a sensible but fair offer for it which was accepted so a trip down to Devon to collect it.. It's a 1978 D-200, just a year later than my other D and quite a few changes were made that year. Much wider rear wheels but you can't turn them round to change the overal width at the rear, later decal set (sorry Mark), no hours meter (guess it became an optional extra).

This example is very basic, obviously originally purchased for mowing only so no pto shaft, three point, or turning brakes this time round. It ain't pretty at the moment but apart from not charging the battery it works. Noticed when I picked it up that the wires had come off the rectifier regulator, too cold to work on it today, perhaps tomorrow.

Just manged to squeeze it into the corner of the barn.

Well done Andy, You'll soon have those running good. Maybe I'll have to stop by and see you on an excursion westward this Spring.

Are you going to run a Thread on them?, or just patch em up and get them working.

No stopping you now Andy is there :D

I did think about having a bid on the D, but alas the normal problems of money, collecting it and having nowhere under cover to store it stopped me..   But I did think about it for a few seconds :D

Thanks for the supportive comments and interest guys.

In answer to the questions raised:

Neil - I make that 9 horses in the stable now, not sure how that compares with your addiction. Re the 'D', it badly needs painting someone in the past started taking the paint off it for a refresh but obviously soon tired of the idea. The guy I bought it from had covered it in machine oil and kept it outside under a canvas but I'm sure it will scrub up well when I get round to it.

Mike - after retirement from mowing it was sold on to a trailer park and used to move what we would call caravans and you I think refer to as travel trailers? That's how it came to have a ball hitch` front and rear. I tried it out as soon as we got back from collecting it and used the 'D' to put away the trailer used to collect it. Not sure what you'd call what we call a trailer, utility trailer? Gets confusing sharing a commonish language.

Richard - When I get time to start work on it I'll start a thread on the Ranger. The intention (famous last words) will be to do a nuts and bolts resto on this one. Apart from the engine not running the little tractor is I think complete. I even have the deck for it but restoring that will be the real challenge. I'm hoping  for two things: that it will fit through my garden gate so that I can store it at home and use it to cut the lawn, and that with a removable steering wheel it will fit in the back of our 4x4 that way with the 4x4 pulling our caravan we could get it to a show and camp over. Now I wonder where I have in mind Mark? (My aim is to have it ready for next year though).

Ian - can quite understand and possibly a wise decision, I'm just a glutton for punishment I guess. It took a day and getting on for a ton in fuel to collect it which was why I wasn't prepared to enter the bidding at the starting price.

Mark - be good to see you and also Richard who mentioned a visit. I'll get some photos and dimensions of the later series 'D' decals. In answer to your comment in the main RS tractor section - yes, this one goes in both directions.

Paul - I haven't decided which tractors to bring to Ardingly yet but I can't see the Ranger being finished in time.

Hope I haven't missed anybody out - Andy
