Kelly 1,033 #8 Posted February 23, 2013 my gt-1800 came from the factory black. (a $35.00 extra) i have the bill of sale. Do you mean the black band on the front of the hood?? not the whole tractor right??
Sparky-(Admin) 23,249 #9 Posted February 23, 2013 I thought all the Work Horse series were gray or pewter like mine . I bet its not original paint. Mike............ Nope, in 1984 they also came red on red. We even have one in our gallery here..... Still not convinced. I blew up the pics in our gallery of Bobby's tractor and it looks like a re-paint to me . Almost looks like you can see the gray paint around the hood decals. I have looked at piles of catalogs from the 80's and I have never seen a Work Horse series with that paint scheme. I'm going to have to dig out my dealer brochures and give em a once over again. I love a good mystery!! Mike........
Martin 2,133 #10 Posted February 23, 2013 I did read somewhere that you could order them in a different body color. I think it was only one year though. I will try and dig up the info, maybe TT can shed some light on this, it might have even been some literature that he gave me on the work horses that mentioned it. Sparky-(Admin) 23,249 #12 Posted February 23, 2013 Found my only Work Horse catalog and it was printed November 1982 so it must be advertising the 1983 models. No red ones in my catalog. I dont have the other year to verify this red tractor thingy. For referance the GT1600 was a 1984 model only (1983 and 82 were called GT1642). Mike......... TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #13 Posted February 23, 2013 I have the Workhorse-specific brochure for 1983, and the "all models" 1984 brochure and see no obviously-advertised paint color option. There's no reason why the dealer couldn't have submitted a special order, but it doesn't appear to have been a common occurrence.
varosd 1,185 #14 Posted February 23, 2013 could it be like the elusive Muscle car era "special order" paint codes?
