Anglo Traction 761 #1 Posted February 22, 2013 My own fault really. Just about the only corner I cut on the Rebuild was the Fuel Pump (off the original 74 engine) . I tested the Diaphram for condition and leaks before careful reassembly and compared the pump arm/lift movement with the '81' pump . I found small traces of Oil in the Carb Venturi and a faint smell of fuel in the Sump Oil the other day, so it look's like the diaphram has had it . The Plastic bodied Pump with Primer lever from the '81' engine is in pieces for inspection/possible repair, But I've been considering other options like- The 'Facet Cube' (electric) Fuel Pump and the Repair Kit for the Metal Body Pumps. I personally like the Kohler Metal pumps. As I haven't yet found a Stockist in UK that sells the Facet models like the 40177, 40252 (low psi), it will be about UK£60.00 to get one shipped in from Stateside. Neither have I found repair Kits over here, and for 1 full repair Kit + 1 spare Diaphram shipped in is about UK£38.00. This will fix one and I'll have a full repair kit spare in case the Raider 12 pump diaphram fails in the future. So, before I hit the button, have any of you Uk residents had any success in finding Kohler pump parts or alternatives for similar 'Dosh' outlay?. If you have , what did you do?. Regards. wheeledhorseman 579 #2 Posted February 22, 2013 Richard, Meetens as in http://www.meetens.co.uk/ Stock most Kohler parts its where I got various bits including an exhaust valve off the shelf when I was working on a K301. Its OEM stuff so we're talking Kohler prices. They're not too far from me but they post stuff as well. I'm pretty sure you'll get the parts to rebuild your pump from them. The guy that runs it seems very knowledgeable on a wide range of small engines particularly Kohler. Re Facet pumps I think the cube design has been superceded. I bought the later low pressure type online here in the UK to try out on my 'D'. Having been used to SU electric pumps I was a little disappointed in that the Facet principle means it runs / ticks all the time by design as It contains a bypass valve to relieve pressure. The result is constant flickering on the ammeter. Andy
Anglo Traction 761 #3 Posted February 23, 2013 Hi Andy, Thanks, I always value your input. Yes I've used Meetens for the last 26 years or so for Villiers/Amal and for Kohler parts recently. Would gladly use them if they had what I wanted, as they've been around in a few guises for over a Century. I agree on the Lecky Pumps and as it would be on a High Tank model, perhaps a bit of overkill, and never had much cranking effort after lengthy 'lay up' periods to get them started anyway . Reckon I'll go for the Rebuild Kit, purely to retain the old pumps and the reasonable cost considering that I'll service 2 for the price. .....I'll let you know how it goes if interested. Well that's what I tell myself after I've made a big mistake somewhere Yep, your right of course Ian. Glad that you, like me, only talk to yourself and not beat yourself up with Birch Twigs after a 'Faux Pas'. I've hit the button on the Rebuild Kit+, So just got to hope the Excise Men don't sting me for 20% Import Duty. Still worth it though.
